Day 1B Concludes; Day 2 Starts at 2pm With 113 Runners Remaining

It's good to be the chip leader
It's good to be the chip leader
The 118 starters from Day 1B have now been whittled down to a mere 56, the pack very firmly led by Irish Open champion Roland De Wolfe, who has roughly 70,000 in chips.

Notable players who fell by the wayside include EPT Budapest winner Will Fry, EPT London winner Michael Martin, Luca Pagano, Sorel Mizzi, Marcin Horecki, and William Thorson. Those who will be returning tomorrow to join the 53 Day 1A survivors in the sweltering cardroom include Dario Minieri, Katja Thater, Isabelle Mercier, Mark Teltscher, and ElkY.

Join us once again at 2pm local time to see who goes up, who blows up, and which unusual salads they will be eating while they do it.

One More Dario Bluff to Close the Night

I love to bluff!
I love to bluff!
With 8,000 already in the middle of a raised and reraised pot, the flop came down {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {2-Clubs}. Both Dario Minieri and his opponent checked. The turn was the {A-Spades} and Minieri led out for 5,500.

"Pocket tens no good," Dario cautioned.

His warning worked and his opponent folded his hand.

"Show the bluff!" he implored, before turning over one of his hole cards, the {6-Hearts}.

Dario flipped over a {9-?} and then a {7-?} for yet another spectacular bluff.

Grinder Of the Day

This award must certainly go to Aditya Agarwal, who incidentally grinded his way into being the very first person to bust out in the money back at the Budapest EPT. Mr Agarwal is still in, on a shaky but anything's-possible 7,500, and we don't believe that he's been above his starting stack at any point today.

ElkY Dominates His Table

ElkY continues his full-on aggresion-fest and total domination of his table. Raising from the button, he was met by a reraise from the big blind. Not in the slightest bit put off, ElkY re-popped, enough to cover the big blind's remaining 12,000 or so by a good long way. After an uncomfortable dwell, the big blind folded. ElkY showed an enigmatic, unimpressive {4-Spades} and raked in the chips.

Isa-Bluff?

Am I bluffing?
Am I bluffing?
With the action folded around to Peter Jepsen, he made it 1,000 to go from the button. Isabelle Mercier, newly moved to his table, popped it to 3,000 from the small blind and Gino Alacqua gave up his big blind. Jepsen called the additional 2,000.

The flop came down {8-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {2-Clubs} and Mercier made a continuation bet of 4,600. Jepsen asked how much she had behind, and she cut her stack down, revealing an additional 13,600 in chips. Jepsen elected to lay down his hand.

As Mercier stacked up the pot, Alacqua noticed a small notebook sitting next to Mercier's chips.

"What's that book?" queried Alacqua.

"It's where I write down all my bluffs" replied Mercier.

"You're not writing now" noticed Jepsen.

"Well, I wasn't bluffing!" she laughed.

Mercier now on 26,000 as the remaining minutes in Day 1B tick away.

It Really is Hot in Here

Inquiring what had become of Nicolas Levi's hat, he replied that it was simply too hot and he'd had to remove it. Ignoring my assertion that he would lose his magical powers without it, he went on, "At night, they take the tables out of here, put some water in and it becomes a sauna." It seems possible...

Musical Chairs

Table Levi/Molander has now been broken, and its former residents scattered across the cardroom.

Nicolas Levi's arrival at his new seat on the immediate left of Sebastian Ruthenberg was met by an odd, dirty sounding laugh from tablemate and fellow Frenchman, (and incidentally, legendary British DJ John Peel lookalike) Jacques Zaicik. Slightly disconcerting, that.

Just as happy was Isabelle Mercier on learning that she was moving to a spot sandwiched between Peter Jepsen, who has stripped down to his undershirt for purposes of receiving a massage, and jovial Italian Gino Alacqua. "I am coming next to you, my friend," she called over to Alacqua. "I don't know how," she continued as she attempted to pick her way through the crowded tournament area. Eventually she reached her new seat, happily chanting, "Yay! Yay! Yay!" Possibly the heat is getting to Ms. Mercier...
