Play Has Finished for the Night; Join Us From 3 pm Tommorrow...

San Remo
San Remo
Nine of hours of poker and we have lost over a third of the starting 337 players; only 95 remain. As with most of these events it is hard to put an exact handle on who the chip leader is, as something always happens when we turn our backs for a moment. It looks like it is a straight fight between Hakan Sahl and Ville Nyman but there are any number of players who are just one double-up from the lead. We will post the actual chip counts before tomorrow's play starts.

Some notable former EPT winners still in the running inlcude Brandon Schaefer, Pascal Perrault, and Mark Teltscher. Interestingly, both Brandon and Mark have also had a second place.

Join us tomorrow from 3 pm (GMT+1) when the big names hit the felt. They include Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari. Local talent includes Gino Alacqua and Max Pescatori.

Bad Beat For Clarkson

Graham Clarkson
Graham Clarkson
Graham Clarkson was doing okay until he found pocket queens and a 13,000 all-in in front of him. Graham made the call and was shown 7-7. The door card was slid over by the dealer and now Graham is back below average.

Graham is not running well in 80/20s, he went out near the bubble of the Irish Open a couple of weeks ago with A-A versus Q-Q in a huge pot when a queen fell on the river. At least this time he still has some chips left.

Rolf Slotboom Doubles Through Dario Minieri

Rolf Slotboom
Rolf Slotboom
Dario Minieri raised to 2,000 from middle position. Action folded around to Rolf Slotboom in the cutoff who pushed out a sizeable raise. Before the raise could be determined, action was back to Minieri who declared, "All in." Slotboom all but insta-called. Minieri rolled over {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and was fairly deflated when Slotboom flipped up the {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}. Minieri failed to improve and had to push an additional 13,800 over to the Dutch poker player.

Nip and Tuck at the Top

Ville Nyman
Ville Nyman
There is not much in it at the top of the chip counts. Ville Nyman has snuck ahead of Hakan Sahl with 105,000 to 101,000. It's not much but it is something. Anthony Spinelli is next with 78,000.

A Contrast of Styles

With just under a half-hour remaining in Day 1a, many players have shifted gears considerably. Some seem determined to make it to Day 2, no matter how short-stacked they'll be when they get there. While others seem to be "going for broke" in an effort to go into Day 2 with a decent chip stack, or else head home early.

Thor Hansen Doubles Up

With 800 of his remaining 3,050 in the big blind, Thor Hansen opted to just cold call his late-position opponent's raise of 2,000. The flop came down {K-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs}. Hansen checked and his opponent threw out 1,050. Hansen smiled, threw in the last of his chips, and flipped up {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}. The entire table, sans his opponent, laughed in amusement as Hansen had tabled an obvious winner. His opponent angrily flipped up the {A-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. He missed his runner-runner miracle and Hansen doubled up to a still dangerously low 8,000.
