Juha Helppi Eliminated in 3rd Place (€121,800)

Juha Helppi - 3rd Place
Juha Helppi - 3rd Place

Fabian Quoss opened to 100,000 on the button, Juha Helppi three-bet to 280,000 from the big blind, and Quoss called. The flop fell {q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{a-Clubs}, and Helppi led out for 200,000. Quoss tank-called.

The turn was the {7-Hearts}, and after a bit of thought, Helppi moved all in for effectively 985,000. Quoss checked his cards one last time, then called.

Helppi: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Quoss: {a-Spades}{7-Spades}

The {6-Clubs} hit the river, Quoss' two pair held, and Helppi was crippled down to 235,000 chips.

"Nice turn," he sighed.

Helppi folded out of the small blind the next hand, but the hand after he open-shoved on the button. Marvin Rettenmaier called in the big blind, and the hands were opened.

Helppi: {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Rettenmaier: {j-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Helppi had him crushed, but the board ran out {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, giving Rettenmaier a winning king-jack flush.

The two remaining players are now on a quick bathroom break.

German Battle

Fabian Quoss opened for 100,000 on the button and was met by a three-bet to 280,000 by fellow German Marvin Rettenmaier in the small blind. Juha Helppi folded the big, and Quoss thought for a long time before four-betting to 475,000. It did the trick as Rettenmaier relinquished his hand.

Marvin Rettenmaier opened to 110,000 on the button, Fabian Quoss defended his big blind, and the flop came {6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. Quoss check-called a 90,000-chip bet, and the turn was the {6-Diamonds}. Both players checked.

The {2-Hearts} completed the board, and Quoss checked a third time. Rettenmaier fired 185,000, and Quoss called. Rettenmaier tabled {a-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for ace-high, and Quoss mucked.

The Stacks Even Out

It looked like Marvin Rettenmaier was going to run away with this tournament, but that just changed when he lost a big pot to Fabian Quoss. Now, all three players are sitting on very similar stacks.

In the last hand of Level 24, Quoss limped from the small blind and then called when Rettenmaier raised to 130,000. Both players then checked the {3-Spades}{8-Spades}{J-Hearts} flop, and the dealer burned and turned the {7-Hearts}. Quoss seized the opportunity to bet 150,000, Rettenmaier called, and the {9-Diamonds} peeled off on the river.

Again Quoss led out, this time for 300,000, and Tettenmaier tossed in a call. Quoss tabled {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for the rivered nuts, and Rettenmaier was left shaking his head.

A Couple of Hands

Juha Helppi opened to 80,000 on the button, Fabian Quoss three-bet to 210,000 from the small blind, and Helppi moved all in for effectively 1.2 million or so. Quoss quickly mucked, and Helppi raked in the pot.

The very next hand, Marvin Rettenmaier opened to 90,000 on the button, Quoss defended his big blind, and the flop fell {q-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. The two players checked.

The turn was the {a-Diamonds}, the pair checked again, and the {2-Hearts} completed the board. Quoss led out for 100,000, and Rettenmaier tank-called. Quoss showed {a-Spades}{7-Clubs} for a pair of aces, and Rettenmaier mucked his hand.

A Four-Bet From The German

Marvin Rettenmaier opened for 90,000 on the button and was met with a three-bet to 220,000 from Juha Helppi in the small blind. Fabian Quoss folded the big and then Rettenmaier took his time before four-betting to 390,000. It was enough as Helppi folded his hand.

Helppi vs. Quoss

Fabian Quoss opened to 80,000 on the button, Juha Helppi defended his big blind, and the flop fell {6-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. Helppi checked, Quoss continued for 125,000, and Helppi check-raised big, making it 400,000 to go. Quoss called.

The turn was the {a-Hearts}, and Helppi tanked for over a minute before betting what looked like either 225,000 or 250,000. Quoss quickly folded.

"Ugly," the German said, referring to the turn card. "Maybe it was good for both of us, though.
