Overton in Overdrive

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante
Aaron Overton
Aaron Overton

Day 2 has been a quick one with just six levels required to set us up for the run to 24 players tomorrow. When the day began, it was Chis Tryba with the big stack, and he more or less treaded water today to bag up a chip count similar to what he started with.

The same cannot be said for two of the others who were chasing Tryba at the start of the day. Both Victor Ramdin and Vanessa Selbst (the defending champion of this event) had monster days, and both are bagging up monster stacks as we speak. Ramdin will have 296,100 and Selbst will have 339,200 when they return tomorrow, plenty of ammunition to attack this thinning field.

Speaking of thinning the field, the list of notables who fell on this Day 2 is significant. All three of the former WSOP Main Event champs who survived Day 1 were sent packing before the midway point today. Jonathan Duhamel didn't make it out of the first level before Joe Cada helped to usher him out, but the latter fell shortly thereafter. Mortensen was the last holdout, but he too succumbed to the heat before play concluded. Also exiting was a former November Niner, Eric Buchman, the NAPT Passport winner and Big Game big winner Bobby "The Bus" Ferdinand, former PCA winner Poorya Nazari, and Jason Mercier, who's a legitimate threat to win any event he enters. He was soon joined on the rail by a few more of the Team PokerStars family, including Pat Pezzin, George Lind III, and Vanessa Rousso.

Those who fared well are a similarly notable list of names, albeit a much smaller one. It's shaping up to be a very entertaining Day 2 as sharks like Adam Junglen, Olivier Busquet, Adam Geyer, and Nick Binger courtesy of an eleventh-hour double up. Tryba's still alive too, as are Bernard Lee, Mike Beasley, Steve O'Dwyer, and Team PokerStars Pro Greg DeBora.

Everyone's chasing Aaron Overton, though, the young man from Philly stuffing an impressive 598,700 chips into his bag. It must be nice to have 150 big blinds and 5% of the chips in play with about 7 0 players left, and Overton's is the stack to catch tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, Day 3 gets rolling at noon, and we hope to see you then as we play into the money and on down to the final 24 players. Until then, all that's left is goodnight!

Selbst Cracks Aces to Cross 300K

Vanessa Selbst and an opponent were involved in a preflop raising war culminating with Selbst five-bet shoving with {8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. Her opponent called instantly with {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} and the defending champ was on the verge of elimination.

However, the flop was great for Selbst as it came down {J-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, giving her flush outs and an inside straight draw. The {5-Clubs} turn was no help, but the river brought the {7-Spades} to make an eight-high straight for Selbst.

Ship the Three-Way All In to Binger

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante
BBBBBIIIIIINNNGGGG!
BBBBBIIIIIINNNGGGG!

Nick Binger was all in for 84,300 with the {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. Another player was all in for 16,400 with the {A-Spades}{J-Spades}. Adam Geyer was also in hand and had both his opponents covered holding the {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{9-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} and Binger was able to win the pot with a set of nines, even though he was out-flopped. He moved to about 190,000 while Geyer was knocked back to 270,000. The third player in the hand was eliminated.

Ramdin's Having a Party

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante
Party time!
Party time!

Victor Ramdin raised to 7,000 and Steve Happas reraised from the big blind to 20,000. Ramdin flat-called and the flop came down {8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. Happas just open-shipped in for 52,200. Ramdin got the count and then said, "I can't fold this hand," before making the call. He tabled the {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a flush draw and Happas was at risk with the {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}.

The turn brought the {7-Hearts} to give Ramdin an added gutshot straight draw. The river completed the board with the {Q-Diamonds} and nailed Ramdin with a flush to give him the win. Happas looked dejected as he stood by the table with his jaw nearly on the floor. Then, he screamed out, "F**K!!!!" for the entire convention center to hear as he was eliminated from the tournament. Ramdin collected the chips and moved to 298,000.

O'Brien Is Second Best

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante

From the hijack seat, Dan O'Brien raised to 6,000 and the player on the button made the call. Everyone else folded and the flop came down {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Spades}. O'Brien fired a continuation bet of 5,400 and his opponent called.

The turn brought the {A-Diamonds} and O'Brien bet 13,200. His opponent called again and the dealer placed the {8-Hearts} on the river. Both players checked.

O'Brien showed the {K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and his opponent the {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. O'Brien's hand was second best and he lost the pot to drop to 118,000 in chips.

Sternberg Doubles Through Medic

Nenad Medic opened to 7,700 in early position and action folded to Alan Sternberg in the small blind who went all in for 40,700. Medic thought it over for a little while before tossing in the chips to call.

Medic: {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}
Sternberg: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}

The board ran out {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, securing the double for Sternberg.
