Tom McEvoy Eliminated

1983 WSOP Main Event Winner Tom McEvoy
1983 WSOP Main Event Winner Tom McEvoy
Tom McEvoy was all in preflop against the wrong man. Todd Phillips has been running hot all day and this hand was no exception.

McEvoy held {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and was in bad shape against Phillips' {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}.

The board was no help for McEvoy either, {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{7-Hearts},{10-Clubs}{3-Spades}

This year, at least, McEvoy will not win another WSOP Main Event Title.

"He Flopped The Nuts, Sir"

Tuan Lam and his opponent get it all in on a flop of {J-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Lam had his opponent covered and they turn up their cards . . .

Lam: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Opponent: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

After the showdown Lam's opponent, who had apparently misread either the board and/or Lam's hand, stood up and said "Come on low cards!! . . . Come On!" The dealer obliged, bringing the {6-Diamonds} on the turn and the {4-Clubs} on the river. Lam's opponent let out a sigh of relief and say "Yeah! . . . There we go." It was awkwardly apparent to the rest of the table that Tuan Lam had won the hand, not his opponent. Lam's opponent began to slowly realize things didn't add up, at which point someone at the table finally broke the news to him, "He flopped the nuts, sir [pointing to Lam's hand]." Tuan Lam is now working with 378,000.

Jeff Madsen Eliminated

Jeff Madsen
Jeff Madsen
Board: {5-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{6-Spades}

Preflop, in middle position, Jeff Madsen open raises all in for 27,200 and a player in the big blind calls. Madsen has {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and the big blind has {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. The five on the flop hurts, and the remaining cards seal Madsen's fate.

Van Alstyne Crippled

Avi Cohen has just taken a massive pot off James Van Alstyne, leaving James in very bad shape.

We caught up with the action on the turn. The board was {K-Spades}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{9-Spades}.

There was nearly 100,000 in the pot and Van Alstyne was facing Cohen's all in bet of nearly 150,000. Van Alstyne went into the tank until someone called the clock on him. He made the call as his hand was counted down and rolled over {K-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Cohen held the nuts with {Q-Spades}{A-Spades}.

The river was the {2-Spades} and Cohen has jumped up the leaderboard while Van Alstyne is almost busted.

"Miami" John Eliminated

"Miami" John Cernuto
"Miami" John Cernuto
A short-stacked John Cernuto committed the last of his chips to the pot preflop holding pocket 10's and was called by Dave Smart, who showed {Q-Spades}{9-Spades}.

Cernuto's odds of surviving appeared high, as the board filled out {8-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, but his luck ran out when the {Q-Clubs} fell on the river and the pot was pushed to Smart.

Ron Kluber Sends One Packing

Ron Kluber, who is representing the Korean Professional Poker Tour (KPPT), just took down a monster pot when his {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} bested the pocket Jacks of his opponent.

All the money went in preflop, and the board came {K-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, giving Kluber a pair of Kings and the checkmark for the hand.

Kluber stood at 170,000 in chips following the win.
