Play Concludes

Play began today with 553 players, and we have eliminated all but 169 of them as play comes to a halt for the night. Today began quite slow, with the players seemingly measuring their tables and the action, not willing to get entangled in any large pots. The pace picked up a bit as play went on tonight, but has still been relatively steady and tranquil for the most part.

As far as we can tell, the overnight chip leader is Marc Goodwin with about 33,500. The top of the leader board is stacked with pros though, and Barry Greenstein, Jimmy Fricke, and Men Nguyen are all close to the lead. We will post the updated Day 2 chip counts as soon as they are released to us.

We will return tomorrow at 3:00pm PDT to play down to our final table of nine. Join us then!

Judah Can Sleep Easy

From middle position, Mel Judah raises it up to 1,000. The button calls, and Scott Clements raises over top from the small blind, making it 1,500 total. Judah calls, but now the button gets frisky, re-popping it to 2,000. Clements, not to be outdone, jams back, capping the betting at 2,500. Both of his opponents call.

The flop comes {2-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {10-Diamonds}. Clements leads out, Judah calls, and the third man in raises the action. Clements again re-raises, and both players call.

The turn is the {10-Spades}, and it checks around, surprisingly.

The river comes down the {2-Hearts}. Clements checks, and Judah now leads the betting, putting out 1,000. The button calls, and Clements lets his hand go, showing {A-Spades} {A-Hearts} {3-Spades} X.

Mel Judah is the man with the winner, as he shows down {A-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {2-Spades} {4-Diamonds}, good enough to ship him the whole pot, and move him up the leader board to 15,000 as play concludes.

Matusow Goes Quietly

Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow has just been sent out, looking very unhappy.

Just before the hand, Matusow half-convincingly reminded himself, "I'm the master of the short stack. I never give up."

On a board showing {9-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {J-Spades} {5-Spades} {2-Diamonds}, Matusow tabled {K-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {6-Spades}. He had just 800 chips to start the hand, and just a pair of queens by the time it reached showdown. He was up against the nuts though, as a player knocked him out with {A-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}. Matusow loped out of the room slowly, staring down at the floor.

The Croc Takes a Bite

A player in early position raises the pot, and Billy "The Croc" Argyros reraises, and the original raiser is the only caller.

The two players see the flop come out {10-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {A-Spades}. Action is checked to The Croc, and he bets, only to get check-raised. He calls the additional 500.

The turn is the {9-Diamonds}. The bet is 1,000 to Argyros and he calls. The river is the {10-Clubs}, and both players check.

The Croc shows down the winning hand: {A-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {3-Clubs}, and to the delight of Aussies everywhere, he has chipped back up to 9,500.

Are You Kidding Me!!

With the action capped preflop, Australian T6 pro Billy "the Croc" Argyros had his opponent all in and was in the lead when he tabled {A-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{6-Spades} against his opponent's {3-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{K-Spades}.

However when the board read {Q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} Argyros screamed out, "Are you kidding me!" as his opponent scooped the pot and left Argyros with only 4,000 in chips.

Table of Death

Finally, we have a table that we can truly call treacherous.

With the recent table breaks, a few players have gotten shuffled around, and it's easy to spot the most dangerous table in the room for the time being. Table 7, right along the rail:

Seat 3: Mike Matusow
Seat 5: Josh Arieh
Seat 8: Barry Greenstein
Seat 9: Men Nguyen

Matt Savage Eliminated

Savage Eliminated
Celebrity Tournament Director Matt Savage has just been eliminated after pushing his remaining 400 chips into the middle holding {A-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{7-Spades} and was run down by his opponent holding {5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}.

The board ran out {2-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{A-Spades} {8-Hearts} {4-Spades} and Savage was eliminated by his opponent's wheel.

Allen Kessler Eliminated

Kessler Eliminated
Kessler Eliminated
Allen Kessler has recently been eliminated after moving tables. After getting short to around 1,200 in chips, Kessler managed to get the remainder of his chips in preflop with {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Spades}.

With Kessler's opponent asking, "Would you like action?" and after getting the response of, "No" from Kessler, his opponent decided to call holding {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades}.

When the board read {9-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {3-Spades}, Kessler was eliminated with his opponent taking the pot with two pair.
