Event 51 - $1,500 H.O.R.S.E.

Day 1 Completed

Event #51: $1,500 HORSE, End of Day 1

A massive 803 players entered the $1,500 HORSE event, making it one of the largest mixed-game tournaments in history, possibly the largest. The 3,000 starting chips and the slimmer early structure (changed this year in favor of more players later in the day) ensured that these players wound not last long.

And bust out they did, as hundreds of players exited play in the first few levels despite the limit format and the split nature of two of the five games.

Several players interested in shoring up their placements in the Milwaukee's Best Light WSOP Player of the Year standings entered this event. Among the top points-earners, only David Benyamine and Mike Matusow remain standing. Due to Barry Greenstein and Erik Seidel earning points at today's $50,000 HORSE final table, Benyamine will have his work cut out for him tomorrow to make a comeback and win the honor.

One hundred eighty-four players are left in this event, and all these runners return Monday at 3 p.m. Pacific time. They plan to play all the way down to 8, but it may get cut off earlier than that, depending on how things go. Either way, see you right here at 3!

Hachem Busts Opponent

Stud-8:

The bring-in has x-x / {2-Hearts} and Player 2 calls with {7-Hearts}. Joe Hachem raises with {4-Hearts} and Player 3 reraises with {8-Hearts}. Everyone calls.

On fourth street, Player 1 checks {Q-Clubs}. Player 2 checks {10-Spades}. Hachem checks {J-Clubs}. Player 3 bets {4-Clubs} and everyone calls.

On fifth street, Player 2 checks {K-Spades}. Hachem checks {5-Spades}. Player 3 bets {J-Spades} and Player 1 folds. Player 2 also folds. Hachem calls.

On sixth, Player 3 checks {7-Diamonds}. Hachem bets {2-Clubs} and Player 3 calls.

On seventh, Player 3 checks. Hachem bets and Player 3 calls all in.

Hachem: ({A-Diamonds}{3-Spades}){4-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}-x
Player 3: {8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{J-Spades}{7-Diamonds}-x

Hachem gets the wheel and busts his opponent. He's up to 25,000.

This Much

Richard Brodie holds up a 100 chip. "I'm up this much!" he jokes. He's got 3,100 in chips, just above the starting stack. "Can you cash out?" another player says.

Hellmuth Runs Good

Hold'em:

In a five-way limped pot, the flop is {4-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}. The under the gun player bets and an early position player raises. Phil Hellmuth smooth calls and the UTG also calls.

The turn is {9-Clubs} and UTG checks. EP bets and Hellmuth raises. UTG calls and EP reraises. Hellmuth calls and UTG calls again.

The river is {3-Spades} and UTG checks. EP bets. Hellmuth raises and UTG folds. EP calls and shows a J, but Hellmuth has {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} for a set.

He then told us that he hit three sets in this round of Hold'em alone. He's up to 43,000 and appears to be the chip leader.

Two Twenty-Four

We've fallen well below a third of the starting field, and it appears likely we will be below one quarter (201) by the end of the night.
