We're on the money bubble now. John Hanson is the 16th-place finisher. He was extremely short (5,000) and found his chips in the middle in a three-way pot against Archie Karas and Vince Musso. Musso drew one, Hanson drew two and Karas was pat. Musso and Karas checked it down after the draw, with the 10-7-6-5-4 tabled by Karas proving decisive.
As a result of Hanson's elimination, the tournament is now playing hand-for-hand until the next elimination.
It's a case of coming up just short for Doug Booth. He reraised all in to 37,000 after Ville Wahlbeck opened for 15,000. Wahlbeck called, then was faced with a tough choice when Booth stood pat. Wahlbeck elected to stand pat as well, a safe choice. His 10-8-5-4-2 beat Booth's J-7-6-5-3 to claim the pot and send Booth out the door just shy of the money.
Archie Karas opened the action before the draw with a raise to 18,000. Steve Sung was in the small blind and put in a large reraise to 80,000. Karas, in position, elected to call.
Sung discarded one card. Karas did the same. After the draw, Sung checked and Karas checked behind, choosing not to take a stab at the pot. Sung opened up a smooth 10, 10-5-4-3-2. Karas just mucked his hand,
Breathe easy, Jason Gray CMU supporters. Gray was all in again, for 26,000, and was called by Max Pescatori. Gray had the first decision on the draw. He rapped pat, prompting Pescatori to draw one.
After the draw was completed, Gray showed down 10-9-8-6-2. Pescatori opened 10-7-5-3. Any card that made his 10 would give him the pot and eliminate Gray, but Pescatori paired fives.
The floor has given a warning to every table not to expose any cards while a hand is live. The warning was prompted, apparently, by Nick Schulman flashing a queen as his discard during a recent hand.
Jason Gray's ChipMeUp supporters ARE going to like to hear about THIS hand. Gray was all in before the draw and called by Justin Smith. Smith drew first and opted to stand pat. This caused Gray to tank for several minutes as he tried to get a read and considered his options.
Finally Gray also stood pat. Smith opened a made J-9; Gray turned over J-7-6-5-2 to take the pot and double up to about 50,000.
Lamar Wilkinson made his last stand against David Benyamine, but couldn't beat his Q-T low. Wlikinson headed out the door, leaving us with 17 players remaining in the field.
Jason Gray's ChipMeUp supporters aren't going to like to hear about this hand. Gray, sitting in the big blind, called a raise to 12,500 made by Ville Wahlbeck. Gray drew one card; Wahlbeck took two.
After the draw, Gray check-called a bet of 25,000 from Wahlbeck. Gray showed down 10-7-5-4-2, but was just barely out-pipped by Wahlbeck's 10-7-4-3-2.
