Abghari Doubles Through

Matthew Matros raised it up preflop, Ahmad Abghari three-bet and Matros made the call.

Flop: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{4-Spades}

Abghari bet, Matros raised, Agbhari reraised and Matros called.

Abgahri then bet in the dark for his final 35,000.

Turn: {Q-Spades}

Matros showed {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}; Abghari had the buts with {A-Spades}{J-Spades}.

The announcer requested the river to be dealt. "Yes," started Terrence Chan with a mischievous grin, "Let's see the completely irrelevant card. Make sure it's not a duplicate."

The bottom line, however, is that Abghari has doubled through and is now back over the 500,000 mark.

Georgios Kapalas Eliminated in 4th Place ($59,838)

Georgios Kapalas - 4th place
Georgios Kapalas - 4th place

Georgios Kapalas got his last in with {a-Spades}{j-Hearts} the next hand from the big blind to a raise from Matt Matros holding {7-Spades}{9-Spades} under the gun. The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Kapalas doubled up, but was still short on around 200,000.

The very next hand, Ahmad Abghari opened under the gun and Terrence Chan reraised from the button. Kapalas four-bet from the small blind and Abghari folded. Chan called, though, and indeed the rest of Kapalas' chips went in on the flop. When the dust settled, the cards looked like so:

Kapalas: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Chan: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}

Board: {j-Clubs}{3-Spades}{q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

From eight players to three in around 90 minutes - who says limit poker is slow?

Kapalas Crippled

A short raising war between Georgios Kapalas (under the gun) and Matt Matros (button) resulted in them seeing a {4-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Spades} with a lot of chips already in the pot. Kapalas bet out and Matros called.

Kapalas bet out again on the {9-Spades} turn and this time Matros raised. Kapalas made the call and they saw the river.

The river came down the {7-Spades} and this time Kapalas merely check-called. Matros confidently turned over {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for a full house, and Kapalas was left with what looked like 95,000.

Matlos Takes the Lead

Giorgios Kapalas opened it up, only for Matthew Matros to raise it up one seat down and Terrence Chan to four-bet from the big blind. A frustrated, but disciplined Kapalas made the fold, whilst Matros matched the bet to take us to a flop of {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}.

As expected, Chan made a continuation bet and Matros called, but took a different route on the {J-Diamonds} turn by check-raising to 120,000. Matros paused momentarily before announcing raise and putting in a three-bet to 180,000. Chan called.

The {6-Spades} river appeared to be a blank, and led to a check-call from Chan. Matros tabled {A-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, which was enough to not only take the pot, but also the chip lead with 1,100,000. Chan, meanwhile, has slipped into second for the first time since the start of this final table with 900,000.

Kapalas Takes a Hit

Georgios Kapalas raised it up prelfop and Terrence Chan defended his big blind. Chan then check-called bets on every street of a {J-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{4-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} board before showing {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a rivered two pair.

Kapalas threw a hand in the air in disgust and sighed "three-outed" at the Greek contingent on the rail.

Kapalas down slightly to 600,000.

Ahmadness

It's been a bit of a roller coaster for Ahmad Abghari since our final went four-handed.

He raised under the gun and called a reraise from Terrence Chan on the button to see a {2-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} flop. Abghari bet out and then called a raise from Chan. Abghari check-called on the {7-Spades} turn and again on the {10-Diamonds} river, but promptly mucked when Chan turned over {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}, leaving himself on 160,000. (By the by, Chan had won a fairly big pot off of Georgios Kapalas just before this with pocket jacks - this pot put Chan firmly back in the lead on a dominating 1.25 million.)

---

The next hand, it folded around to Matt Matros in the small blind who raised. Abghari called in the big blind and they saw a flop.

Flop: {7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Spades}

Matros bet out and Abghari raised; Matros called and they saw a turn.

Turn: {6-Hearts}

Matros now merely check-called the bet from Abghari, so they saw a river.

River: {10-Diamonds}

Matros bet out, and Abghari called all in. To showdown.

Matros: {a-Spades}{5-Spades} for ace high
Abghari: {6-Clubs}{9-Spades} for a straight

Abghari doubled to around 300,000. He took another chunk out of Matros the next hand as well, when his pocket jacks presumably held up on the {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{k-Spades} board, as Matros mucked.

Abghari is right now sitting on around 430,000.
