Event #33: $2,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em/Omaha

Day 2 Completed

It's Over - Until Tomorrow

Ivey is still lurking.
Ivey is still lurking.

Day 2 is in the books. Just 116 players started the day, all with hopes of making it into the money and bagging and tagging their chips at the end of play to make it on to the third and final day of Event #33: $2,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em/Omaha.

Justin Smith started the day as the chip leader but would not maintain that lead and ultimately fell more than half way through the day. That may have had something to do with Round 2 of the $10,000 Heads Up No-Limit Hold'em Championship that had him occupied through a level or two. Phil Ivey and Victor Ramdin found themselves pitted against each other as well in Round 2 of the $10,000 HU Championship, but Ivey took care of that quickly.

Forty-five players made the money today taking home at least $5,244. Those that will have to settle for a slightly smaller payday than the $260,517 first place prize include, Jeffrey Lisandro, Steve Zolotow, Ross Boatman, and Steven van Zadelhoff.

Just 14 players remained at the end of play. Jose-Luis Velador will come back to Day 3 with the chip lead after bagging 455,000 tonight. David Chiu, Phil Ivey, Victor Ramdin, and Kevin MacPhee are still in the hunt for WSOP gold and the first place prize as well. We'll be back at 3 p.m. local time to play down to a winner. Be sure to be locked here as we bring you all the action.

Floyd Crippled and Eliminated as Hollink Doubles

Pot-Limit Omaha

On the flop of {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, Russ Floyd got it in with Matt Sterling. Floyd held the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and was up against the {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for Sterling.

The turn was the {5-Clubs} and the river came the {K-Hearts} to cripple Floyd and knock him all the way down to just 3,000 chips. Sterling boomed his way to over 250,000.

On the next hand, Floyd was all in and eliminated as Rob Hollink doubled through Gavin Cochrane with the {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{3-Clubs} versus {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Hollink and Cochrane for the money in on the flop of {J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and Floyd had the last of his chips in preflop from the big blind. The turn was the {6-Clubs} and the river the {5-Spades}. Hollink was all in for 118,500 on the flop.

Another Pot for Gray

Pot-Limit Omaha

Craig Gray limped from early position and then Tristan McDonald completed from the small blind before Konstantin Bucherl raised to 15,000 from the big blind. Gray called and McDonald folded.

The flop came down {J-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and Bucherl fired 17,000. Gray made the call and the turn card produced the {2-Clubs}. Both players checked to see the {6-Spades} fall on fifth street. Bucherl checked and then Gray checked on his opponent's stack size before firing a bet of 30,000. Bucherl folded and left himself with 77,000 while Gray won the pot and increased to 285,000.

Gray Gets Giorgi

Pot-Limit Omaha

Thomas Giorgi moved all in for 17,500 from under the gun. Konstantin Bucherl made the call from middle position as did Craig Gray from the button.

Flop: {5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}

It was checked to Gray who bet 36,000. Bucherl folded.

Gray: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs}
Giorgi: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

The turn brought Gray's flush card when the {8-Spades} fell. The river was the meaningless {k-Hearts}. Giorgi was sent to the rail while Gray stacked his chips to 240,000.

Chiu Makes a Big Call to Increase Lead

Pot-Limit Omaha

David Chiu just increased his lead and moved his stack to 460,000 in chips after he made a big call on the river against Russ Floyd. The final board read {9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and there was about 100,000 chips already in the pot. Floyd fired 59,000 and Chiu sat in the tank for several minutes. Eventually, he pushed out the amount of chips to make the call and Floyd did not look happy about it.

Chiu saw Floyd's reaction and immediately tabled the {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. Floyd showed the {5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} from his hand, but not his fourth card and dropped to 130,000 in chips.

McDonald Doubles

Pot-Limit Hold'em

Kevin MacPhee made it 14,000 from middle position before Thomas Giorgi bumped it up to 39,000. Tristan McDonald moved all in from the button for 75,000 and Giorgi made the call.

Giorgi: {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
McDonald: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

McDonald flopped a set when the board rolled out {j-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. He turned a boat with the {3-Diamonds} and the river brought the {6-Spades}.

McDonald sits at 170,000 and Giorgi has 20,000.

Ivey Doubles

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Pot-Limit Omaha

Action folded to the cutoff seat where Gavin Cochrane raised to 12,500. Phil Ivey sat on the button and reraised the pot to 45,000. Cochrane went into the tank after the blinds folded and thought for a solid couple of minutes while Ivey just stared straight ahead. After a bit, Cochrane announced a re-pot and Ivey made the call.

Ivey held the {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{5-Spades} against Cochrane's {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Hearts}.

The flop came down pretty clean for Ivey when the {9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades} landed. The turn gave a flush draw to Cochrane when the {7-Spades} fell, but the {Q-Hearts} on the river was about as much of a blank as you could get.

Ivey counted down his stack and the amount was 110,500 that Cochrane needed to ship over, putting Ivey well over the 200,000-chip mark. Cochrane dropped to 391,000 in chips.

After the hand, David Chiu chimed in, "Nice hand, Phil. Play tight now, O.K."
