The Brit Leads Out to Take it Down

Level 8 : 30,000/60,000, 0 ante

Timoshenko made a raise to 60,000 holding the button and Cody came along, bringing a flop of {2-Spades}{9-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}.

After a check by Cody, Timoshenko fired 70,000 into the pot and Cody flat called. The turn was the {8-Hearts} and the players exchanged checks.

The river fell {A-Spades} and Cody adjusted his line in the hand, betting 95,000 chips. Timoshenko seemed a bit surprised by this move and released his cards fairly quickly.

Timoshenko Five-Bets Preflop to Drag Huge Pot

Level 8 : 30,000/60,000, 0 ante

After Cody made it 65,000 to go on the button, Timoshenko three-bet to 185,000 and the Brit asked for the exact amount of the raise. Cody then decided to four-bet to 315,000 and Timoshenko paused for more than two minutes or so in reflection.

The calm and cool Timoshenko eventually slid out a tower of chips to raise the action to 585,000. Cody surrendered in the face of this pressure play and Timoshenko jumped out to a sizable chip advantage.

Cody Gets it In

Yevgeniy Timoshenko raised to 48,000, his standard raise at this level. Jake Cody responded with a three-bet to 145,000, and a darty-eyed Timoshenko spent a few moments considering before flicking the call into the pot.

The flop came out {10-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}, and Cody knocked the table. Timoshenko stared blankly at the board for another 30 seconds or so, then checked it back. The {7-Hearts} landed on fourth street, and Cody put out a delayed continuation bet of 177,000. Timoshenko studied, then called.

There was more than 600,000 in the pot as the dealer put the {2-Clubs} down on the river. It was a blank, and Cody wasn't slowing down now. He gathered all 860,000 of his chips and slid them across the imaginary betting line, overbetting the pot and putting the decision on Timoshenko. He made it rather quickly, folding without incident to let Cody chip back into this match.

He's just about 200,000 chips behind Timoshenko now.

Yevgeniy's Small Pair Good Enough

Level 8 : 30,000/60,000, 0 ante

Jake Cody made it 57,000 to go on his button and Timoshenko called, bringing a flop of {2-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. Timoshenko checked it to Cody, who fired 59,000 into the middle and after Yevgeniy called the {A-Clubs} arrived on fourth street.

The players both checked and the dealer flipped a {7-Hearts} on the river. Both players checked it down and the Ukrainian's {5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a pair was good enough to earn the pot.

Yevgeniy Earns A Small Pot

Level 8 : 30,000/60,000, 0 ante

On the button Timoshenko raised the action to 48,000 and Cody came along for the ride. The flop revealed the {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{A-Spades} and Cody checked to Timoshenko, who fired 54,000 into the middle.

Cody slid his cards into the muck as the Brits in attendance cheered anyway, perhaps more influenced by the complementary adult beverages than the action on the felt.

A British Invasion

Level 8 : 30,000/60,000, 0 ante

A soccer match has broken out in the Amazon Room of the Rio as Jake Cody's contingent of British well-wishers have begun to serenade Yevgeniy Timoshenko with derisive chants, whoops and songs. At one point a man thrust both of his shoes high in the air, waving them at the table in an attempt to distract the stoic Ukrainian.
