Hawrilenko's Turn for a Comeback

Level 23
Matt Hawrilenko
Matt Hawrilenko

Matt Hawrilenko's housemates were busy watching the UFC fights this afternoon. They made it to the Thunderdome to sweat their friend and clearly brought some run good with them. The first hand they watched, Hawrilenko bet a {k-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} flop, and Brandon Meyers called. He bet again on the {8-Clubs} turn. Meyers raised, and Hawrilenko called. The {k-Clubs} river paired the flushed board, and Hawrilenko bet out. Meyers called, and Hawrilenko turned over {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} for quad kings.

The next hand, Hawrilenko won a pot with aces full. He is well over a million in chips now.

Matros Mounting a Comeback

Level 23

Matt Matros and Brandon Meyers went three bets before the flop of {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{6-Hearts}. Meyers bet out, and Matros called. The turn was the {a-Diamonds}, and Matros called another bet. The river brought the {3-Clubs}, and Matros called a last bet. He showed {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, which was very good against Meyers' queens. That hand has Matros nearing the 1 million-chip mark and very much back in contention after returning from dinner in critical condition.

Brian Smith was second to act and moved all in for 380,000 and action passed to Jonathan Lane on the button. Lane measured out the call, thought about it and then slid in the call. The blinds released and the hands were tabled.

Lane: {7-Spades} {7-Diamonds}
Smith: {6-Spades} {6-Hearts}

The board ran {8-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {5-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} and Lane's pair held, sending Smith to the cashier's cage for a payout.

No Limit to Meyers' Domination

Level 23

Brandon Meyers is clearly more at home in the no limit rounds than in the limit ones, and with some serious limit sharks at the table, he's using no limit to further his chip lead and assert his dominance. He's raising nearly every hand and three-betting those when he can't open. A few times he's been played back at and folded, but most hands add to his stack.

In a recent hand, he kept up his usual style but happened to have a real starting hand. Brian Smith opened to 47,000. Not unusually, Meyers reraised to 135,000 on the button. Smith called and checked the {j-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop. Uncharacteristically, Meyers didn't c-bet. The {2-Clubs} put the action back on Smith, who bet 160,000. Meyers called. It was back to check-check on the {6-Clubs} river. Smith announced "king high," which prompted Meyers to turn over his winning nut no pair, {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}. The chip leader is now over 2 million.

Lane Bets and Raises on Flop

Level 23

Jonathan Lane opened the pot for 48,000 in the cutoff and Brian Smith called from the big blind. The flop came {J-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}, Smith checked and Lane bet 55,000. Smith took a moment before raising to 135,000. Lane reraised all in for 421,000 and before the dealer could complete counting Lane's stack Smith folded.
