That’s Enough Splits For One Day

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Nick Schulman
Nick Schulman

We have played ten crazy levels of non-stop action here at the Rio in Event #57: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-low Split-8 or Better, and from a starting field of 173 today, only 25 remain. Your chip leader is none other than Nick Schulman, who bagged 772,000 chips to end the night as the comfortable chip leader.

Schulman vaulted into the chip lead in a huge hand against Gary Bolden with four tables left. Schulman raised to 15,000 preflop and was called by Bolden who was next to act as well as the big blind. On the {k-}{8-}{4-} flop with two clubs, the big blind checked to Schulman who bet 40,000. Bolden raised to 170,000, the big blind folded and Schulman shoved. Bolden called all in and the players showed their hands.

Schulman: {a-}{k-}{8-}{2-}
Bolden: {a-}{8-}{4-}{2-}

The turn and river bricked out and Schulman won the pot with his higher two pair to eliminate Bolden and take a sizeable chip lead.

Schulman is not the only big name left in the field. We still have Allen Kessler(568,000), Phil Laak(319,000), Nick Binger(303,000), David Bach (310,000), Lee Watkinson(111,000), and David Sands(110,000).

Amongst the players we lost before the money today were Mike Matusow, Max Pescatori, Sorel Mizzi, Dan Heimiller, and Noah Boeken. Erik Seidel, Bill Gazes, and John Hennigan were some of the players who made some cash, but didn’t survive the night.

The 25 remaining players will all return tomorrow at 3 pm, and they will try play down to a winner in what is the last event before the main event. So even though the main event will be starting tomorrow, be sure to stay tuned to this event as it will likely reach its conclusion. Thanks for staying with us here at Pokernews, and we will see you tomorrow!

How Many Hands

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

It was just announced to the dealers that the players will bag up and play will end after six more hands at each table. We will have each and every players counts by then.

Binger Busts Guerra

We missed the action, but we saw that Maurizio Guerra was getting out of his seat and saying his goodbyes, and we rushed over to see what happened. The board read {4-}{2-}{4-}{10-}{4-}, and Binger had {a-}{k-}{a-}{3-} for a full house. Guerra headed to the rail, while Binger jumped into the top 5 after that pot.

Vaswani's Time Runs Out

Ram Vaswani was crippled at the money bubble, but he was able to survive and even made it past another table of eliminations. However, his luck finally ran out as he lost the rest of his chips to Lee Watkinson. Watkinson made it 21,000 on the button, and Vaswani shoved all in for 50,000. Watkinson called, and the cards were flipped up.

Vaswani: {7-Spades}{10-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Watkinson: {2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{7-Clubs}

The flop came {10-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, giving both players two pair and putting Vaswani in the lead. The turn brought the {k-Clubs}, and Vaswani was in great shape to double up. However, the river brought the {2-Clubs}, and Watkinson made an unlikely full house to knock off Vaswani and up his stack to 130,000.

Reader Wins Massive Pot As Tables Redraw

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

As the 28th player busted, three out of four tables had finished play and started to choose new seats.

However, table #286 still had one very large hand going on.

With all the money in on the {8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{4-Clubs} board here is what the players held:

Trevor Reader: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{2-Spades}
Peter Levine: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
Fabrizio Gonzalez: {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Spades}

Levine had significantly less chips than the other two players which created a large main pot but a massive side pot. The turn {j-Hearts} and river {3-Spades} ultimately resulted in a chopped main pot between Levine and Reader. Reader also scooped the side pot and now has 285,000 while Gonzalez falls to 60,000.

Bolden Blow up Doubles Bach, Surges Schulman to Chip Lead

First, on a {Q-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{J-Clubs} board, Gary Bolden led out from the small blind for 65,000 and David Bach moved all in from the hijack for 119,000 total. Bolden made the call as the players revealed their hands.

Bach: {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Boldin: {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades}

Boldin had top pair, a queen-high flush draw and a low draw. Bach had a pair of sixes, the nut flush draw and a better low draw. The river was the {6-Clubs} which completed Bach’s higher flush and better low to give him the scoop and double him up while dropped Boldin down to 290,000.

Shortly after, Nick Schulman raised to 15,000 preflop and was called by Bolden who was next to act as well as the big blind. On the {K-}{8-}{4-} flop with two clubs, the big blind checked to Schulman who bet 40,000. Bolden raised to 170,000, the big blind folded and Schulman shoved. Bolden called all in and the players showed their hands.

Schulman: {A-}{K-}{8-}{2-}
Bolden: {A-}{8-}{4-}{2-}

The turn and river bricked out and Schulman won the pot with his higher two pair to eliminate Bolden and take a sizeable chip lead.

Hennigan Next

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
John Hennigan Knocked Out in 30th Place
John Hennigan Knocked Out in 30th Place

John Hennigan raised to 12,000 from middle position and Allen Kessler three-bet him in position to 35,000. It folded back to Hennigan who already had the chips ready to go in.

"Just like that?" Kessler asked.

"My mind is a steel trap Allen," Hennigan responded.

The flop came {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{10-Spades} and Hennigan checked. Kessler immediately announced all in and Hennigan wasted no time making the call.

Kessler: {a-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades}
Hennigan: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}

Kessler had a pair of fours and each had the nut low draw. The turn was the {6-Clubs} which gave Kessler a straight and hit each of their lows. But the {2-Clubs} river counterfeited Hennigan's low and knocked him out of the tournament.

With that pot, Kessler now has 450,000 chips and is our current chip leader.
