Fade to Gray

Who put glue on my hands?!
Who put glue on my hands?!
Bad news Mortensen-esque stack fans, Vos Construction Ltd is no more.

With {K-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} showing in Stud/8, Vos was forced to break down the walls and spend a few of those gray 100 chips to bet 6K against German online pro Thomas "Buzzer" Bihl.

With Buzzer's {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} being joined by a {J-Hearts}, and Vos receiving the {7-Diamonds}, Buzzer sharply bet out 6K which, again, was called in grays by Vos, his stack now looking no more than a diminished skyline.

The final card was dealt face down, with both players checking, Buzzer announcing "Blind." Vos didn't look too happy, Buzzer left to scoop a nice pot, as well as all those stack-building gray chips, with {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for a straight.

Vos is down to 50K.

Yuval Bronshtein Sneaks Into the Lead

Yuval Bronshtein - Chip Leader
Yuval Bronshtein - Chip Leader
Aggressive play by Yuval Bronshtein in the Hold'em level sees his towers of orange 1K chips reach critical height. Therefore they're hard to count; I would place a fairly heavy bet on his having topped 200K, however. Most recently he won two pots back-to-back:

The first saw the betting up to 12K preflop, with the final bet being made by out-of-position Bronshtein, called by button Jennifer Harman. The flop brought {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Bronshtein bet out 3K, raise to 6K from Harman, insta-reraise from him and he took the pot. He showed her the {3-Clubs} as he raked in the pot.

Then Barny Boatman lost a tough one -- it looked like the board was {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Spades} with the six having arrived on the river. I saw this hand from the point where Barny bet 6K on the river, and then called Yuval Bronshtein's raise. A pause ensued while neither player wished to reveal his hand -- it was up to Bronshtein -- and he showed {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and was awarded the pot. A sad-looking head shake from the Hendon Mobster, who flashed the {A-Clubs} as he mucked his hand.

Jesus Takes a Huge Pot From Mark Vos

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson
Chris "Jesus" Ferguson
Stud/8:

Mark Vos is dealt the {3-Spades} and puts out the forced bring-in of 1000. Kirk Morrison folds and Chris Ferguson raises to 3000, showing the {6-Diamonds}. Vos reraises to 6000 and Jesus makes the call.

Vos: (X X) {3-Spades}{8-Clubs}
Jesus: (X X) {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}

Vos bets out 3000 and subsequently calls a raise by Jesus to 6000.

Vos: (X X) {3-Spades}{8-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}
Jesus: (X X) {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

Vos check-calls a bet from Jesus.

Vos: (X X) {3-Spades}{8-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Jesus: (X X) {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}

Again, Vos check-calls a bet from Jesus.

Seventh street is dealt, Vos checks and Jesus bets out. Vos goes into the tank and looks disgusted. He eventually calls and Jesus opens {2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{7-Spades}.

Vos shows {A-Spades}{4-Spades}{K-Hearts} and mucks.

We caught up with Jesus and Mark earlier in this event. Check out our Video Gallery to see what they had to say.

Going South

Gary "The Choirboy" Jones, who was once king of the hill with over 130K, has been struggling over the last level or two, his latest battle with Yuval Bronshtein leaving him with only 52,500.

The bout was in Stud/8, and with Gary showing {3-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, he faced a bet from Yuval and his {K-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}.

After a momentary pause, Gary exhaled deeply before folding. Yuval proudly showed cowboys in the hole for a set of kings.

Tom Nightingale Eliminated by Alex Kravchenko in 13th Place (£5,775)

Tom Nightingale - 13th Place
Tom Nightingale - 13th Place
Stud. In a three-way pot, Tom Nightingale was all in by third street against Barny Boatman and Alex Kravchenko.

Nightingale: (x-x) {10-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Boatman: (x-x) {5-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}
Kravchenko: (x-x) {6-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}

Kravchenko took down the pot when he showed {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} for two pair. Boatman flipped over {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} but his three pair was no good. Nightingale showed {A-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for just a pair of deuces. Tom Nightingale is out the door in 13th place.

Down to 12. Four more bustouts and we get to go home.

The Great Wall of Vos

Vos Tower
Vos Tower
Frank Gehry. Antoni Gaudi. Frank Lloyd Wright. Mark Vos.

OK, maybe tossing Mark Vos' name into the mix with some of the most influential architects of the 20th century is going a bit overboard, but if you have been watching the action at Mark Vos' table here at the Empire Casino, you will see that he's been erecting various chip sculptures such as the one pictured on the right. He's been told at various times by the tournament staff to tear down his monuments and stack his chips in regular columns. But he quickly gets bored and starts rebuilding in a new design.

Finding His Mark

After a brief discussion with the TD as to which one of us was going to take down Vos' stack first with an selection of different missiles, the Aussie/South African bracelet winner was forced to add a few orange chips to his mountain of gray 100s, subsequently leaving John Juanda with 31,800.

The game was Razz, and with Mark showing {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, he shoveled out a bet of 6K which, after a session in the think tank, was called by Juanda and his {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Spades}.

"You were ahead at one point," commented Vos as he revealed {4-Spades}{3-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}.
