An electrical engineering student from the UK, Oliver Maingay loves the mathematical side of poker as well as the psychological aspect. “The fact that no matter how good you get”, explains Oliver, who has been playing poker for three years, “you can always learn and get better”. Texas Holdem, Omaha and 5 Card Omaha are his favourite poker games and Oliver enjoys playing them in both live and online arenas. The local from Surbiton in Surrey is involved in tournaments and cash games, switching from one to the other whenever his luck starts to turn. Upon winning entry into the World Series Main Event, Oliver was both “ecstatic” and “extremely shocked”. He jumped around the room and woke up just about everyone he knew. Qualifying for the 2007 World Series is by far his biggest win to date and although he has been to the World Series before, he has yet to participate. The sportsman also likes rugby, squash, fishing and boating and we hope he carries his competitive spirit with him when he participates in this year’s World Series Main Event.
