    Day 1 Complete

1,000 players turned out for the 1,500 No-Limit Hold 'em Shootout and, at the end of the day, 100 of them made the money and moved on to Day 2.

Though not as star-studded as some other events of this year's WSOP, a number of name players did take part in the action including pros like Andy Bloch, Hevad Khan, Chad Brown, and Liv Boeree. In the end though, very few big names made it through their starting tables.

Some of the pros who will be seeing action on Day 2 include Jared Hamby, J.C. Alvarado, Theo Tran, Nick Binger, Dutch Boyd and Joe Beevers. Everyone who has made it to Day 2 has also made the money, earning a guaranteed $5,236.

Action resumes again at 2PM tomorrow, so be sure to join us and see which player can gun their way to the final table.

The Day 2 Field is Set

Our last two tables of the day have recently concluded play.

On Table 162, Andrew Scott won his race when he got all in preflop with {Q-Spades}{J-Hearts} against his opponent's {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}. When the board came {Q-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{K-Spades}, Scott moved on.

Our last winner of the day came from Table 172 where Chad Burum held {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts} against his opponent's {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Burum fell further behind on a flop of {10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}, but pulled ahead when he spiked the {K-Diamonds} on the turn. When the {6-Diamonds} fell on the river, Burum became player 100 in tomorrow's field.

    Maura Harris Moves On

Dennis Phillips busted out of today's event a couple of hours ago, but he stayed around to sweat his girlfriend Maura Harris who was playing at Table 174.

After giving her his lucky St. Louis Cardinals cap, Harris got all of her chips in the middle on a flop of {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and was pleased to find her {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} was way ahead of her opponent's {Q-?}{8-?}.

When the board finished with the {2-Diamonds} and {6-Diamonds}, Harris won her spot for tomorrow. After the hand, Phillips asked if she was ready to go and play another satellite tournament.

"No, I need a drink," was her quick reply.

Chan "Peter" Ping is a Winner

In one of our final tables of the day, Chan "Peter" Ping won his way to Day 2 when his {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} out-flopped his opponent's {A-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} on a board of {K-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{4-Spades}{Q-Hearts}.

    Two More Winners Move On

We're down to the last few tables on Day 1 of the shootout.

In the past few minutes, Kyle Brossia secured his place in the field tomorrow when his {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} held up against his opponent's {A-Hearts}{3-Spades} on a board of {J-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{2-Spades}.

Also moving on is Phong Ly who's {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} held on versus his opponent's {A-Spades}{8-Diamonds} on a board of {5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Spades}{J-Clubs}{6-Hearts}.

A Nice River for Derric Haynie

When Derric Haynie's opponent pushed all in dark for 2,325 preflop, Haynie could easily afford to make the call.

As it turned out, his {J-Spades}{10-Hearts} made him a big dog against his opponent's {Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, but that didn't matter as he hit his three-outer on the river when the board ran out {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}.

Howard Boyd Jacks His Way to Day 2

On a flop of {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}, Howard Boyd led out for 4,500 and his opponent raised all in for just a few thousand more.

Boyd quickly made the call with {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and had his opponent dominated when he turned over {J-Hearts}{6-Hearts} in hope of hitting a gut shot. It didn't come and when the board finished {10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, Boyd moved on.

An Epic Battle Comes to an End

In what was easily the day's longest heads-up battle, it took Paul Keesey nearly four hours of heads-up play to earn his way to Day 2.

Keesey was on the second table to reach heads up today and the chip lead bounced back and forth many times before Keesey finally claimed the win just after our last break.

    Sam Johnson Moves On

All the money got in preflop and Sam Johnson was happy to be ahead when he tabled {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} against his opponent's {K-?}{10-?}.

When neither player improved on a board of {J-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}, Johnson's ace played and moved on.

We high carded for $10000 worth of expenses. I ended up having to pay $1750 for Texas tikets. Only a $500 loser on the trip. Skill game.
