Day 1 Concludes; Back at 2pm
Well, that's it. The chips are being bagged and tagged, and it looks as though 107 runners have made it through to Day 2 -- an impressive whittling down of our 446-strong starters.
David Baker seems to have snuck into the chip lead in the last few hands with 72,100, but there are a number of players trailing only slightly behind, so it's really anyone's game come tomorrow. Also still in, albeit on more modest stacks, are big names Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Brock Parker and Maria Ho.
We'll be back here at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, when we'll be doing our damnedest to play down to a final table. -

Monroe - we'll miss his awesome headphonesThe Iceman Cameth, and Then He Went Away
Teddy "Iceman" Monroe has finally bitten the dust after dwindling for some time.
On his final hand he held
and was dominated by two players both holding
. Everyone hit an eight, but Monroe failed to hit a jack to go with it, and while the other two players chopped the pot, he hit the rail. -

Last Six Hands
We're down to that very special do-or-die point in the day.
Our chip leaders include Jared O'Dell, Simen Sagstuen and Soheil Shamseddin, all on over 40,000. Tommy Hang still leads as far as we can see, on over 50,000. -

Hawrilenko at the $10k final table - no more final tables todayHawrilenko Hits the Matt
Indeed Hawrilenko has now gone -- he got his very last in under the gun with
and was most unfortunate to smack into the small blind's pocket aces. -

Going Down
Daniel Negreanu's dwindled a bit -- he's down to 15,000 form his earlier high of 33,000.
Also Matt Hawrilenko has somehow got down to just 1,000 -- imminent bustout seems likely... -

Granstad Finish
A total lack of chips for Mr. Henning Granstad, and the necessary conclusion that he is busto.
He called a raise preflop, as did the gent in the big blind, and they went three-way to a
flop. The big blind checked and the original raiser bet; Granstad raised and the big blind got out of their way. The original raiser reraised, Granstad called all in, and was most disappointed to see his
dominated by Mr. Original Raiser's
.
No help for Granstad from the
turn or
river and out he went, not long before the end of the day. -

It's tough to be the world championMueller's Still Here
Greg Mueller is below average but better than he was -- he's up to 13,500 after knocking out a player.
The soon-to-be-busted gent in question raised in mid position and Mueller called out of the big blind; the last of the unfortunate's chips went in on the flop and although he picked up a couple outs on the turn, none of them came through on the river and out he went.
