    Girl Power

    We mentioned earlier that there seemed a lot more women than usual playing this event with the fairer sex representing over 6% of this field compared to the 2 1/2% we usually muster. Among our survivors as Day 1 comes to a close are Katja Thater, Annie Duke, Sabyl Landrum, Alexandra Vuong, and Shirley Rosario, who only last month won the $1,000 H.O.R.S.E. event at the California State Poker Championships at L.A.'s Commerce Casino.

    Bingo, bongo bango!
    Bingo, bongo bango!

    Sexton Bests Bonomo

    Justin Bonomo (X)(X){4-?} {2-?} {3-?} {J-?} (X)
    Mike Sexton (X)(X){A-?} {4-?} {10-?} {5-?} (X)

    A player completed on third street with a {6-?} up, Justin Bonomo raised, Mike Sexton reraised, the first bettor folded and Bonomo called. Sexton led on fourth street and Bonomo called. Bonomo took the lead on fifth street and Sexton peeled one off after catching a {10-?}. Sexton took back the lead on sixth street when Bonomo caught a jack. He bet out and Bonomo called. Sexton then bet the river, and after a bit of a think, Bonomo mucked his cards.

    After the hand, Sexton was up to 14,000.

    Can't walk on water, but can fold a 3-4-5 board in Razz
    Can't walk on water, but can fold a 3-4-5 board in Razz

    Good Fold, Jesus

    Jesus (X)(X){4-?} {5-?} {A-?}
    Foe of Jesus (X)(X) {4-?} {5-?} {3-?}

    Chris "Jesus" Ferguson called a completion on third street. On fourth, both he and his opponent caught fives, for identical boards of 4-5. Ferguson called his opponent's bet and they went to sixth street, which came a trey for Jesus and an ace for his opponent. Facing another bet, Ferguson elected to fold.

    Ferguson's opponent peeked at his down cards and showed a deuce. He then teased Ferguson and peeled up the second one about halfway... before finally revealing a seven.

    From the look on Ferguson's face, it was a good fold.

    Eskimo No Mo'

    Eskimo Clark (X)(X){8-?} {5-?} {10-?} {K-?} (X)
    Ville Wahlbeck (X)(X) {2-?} {6-?} {9-?} {3-?} (X)

    We picked this one up on fourth street with Ville Wahlbeck leading out and Eskimo Clark making the call. Wahlbeck bet out again on fifth street and Clark called and on sixth, Wahlbeck bet and Clark called all in.

    Wahlbeck showed 9-6-5-3-2, while Eskimo mucked disgustedly and headed to the rail.

    PokerNews Crew Update

    The last member of our crew standing in this event is Mickey Doft, who is currently playing at one of the rooms toughest tables, stacked with Daniel Negreanu, Bill Chen, Thomas Bihl, and Joe Tehan (pretty sure that's 7 WSOP bracelets and 3 WPT titles right there). Though he was running low on chips in the last level, he has now chipped up to a comfortable 17,000.

    Baxter's Wheel Spins

    Mike Baxter (X)(X){2-?} {3-?} {9-?} {A-?} (X)
    Opponent (X)(X){2-?} {6-?} {7-?} {4-?} (X)

    Facing a completion on third street, Mike Baxter raised it up and got a call. Baxter took the lead on fourth street and bet. His opponent called, and both players checked fifth street. Baxter called another bet on sixth street, then bet the river when his opponent checked.

    Baxter got a call and turned over {4-?} {5-?} in the hole for a wheel. He raked in the pot, his stack now up to 19,100.
