    Day 2 in the Books

    Day 2 kicked off just over 12 hours ago with 349 players still battling to get through this middle day of the tournament. As the night winds down, it appears that just 30 of them remain to play on Day 3.

    Christopher Bonita was atop the leader board when play began today, but he was sent home a few hours ago with a small payday. Cody Slaubaugh had a big stack when the day started, but he too was knocked off early in the money. Others who've come and gone today include Men "The Master" Nguyen, Jason Potter, Matt Brady, Tony Cousineau, Amnon Filippi, Doug Kim, and Grant Hinkle.

    As the chips are bagged up, it's clear that Thibaut Durand has ridden a late surge into the overnight chip lead. He's stuffed his bag with 1,650,000 chips, apparently one of only two players to have crossed over the 1,000,000-chip mark so far. Durand will be back tomorrow to defend his lead against the likes of Alex Jacob, Andrew Chen, Eric Lupovich, and Steven Levy. It promises to be an exciting conclusion as we play down to our bracelet winner late tomorrow night.

    That's it for today. Play will resume at 1:00pm tomorrow for the run to the final table. We'll see you then!

    Josh Schlein Calls With Ace High

    Josh Schlein raised to 32,000 from early position and Georgios Kapalas called from the big blind. The flop came {8-Clubs} {8-Spades} {6-Spades} and both checked.

    The turn brought the {Q-Spades} and after a check from Schlein, Kapalas bet 45,000. Schlein called.

    The river was the {3-Hearts} and again Schlein checked. Kapalas fired out a bet of 110,000. Schlein tanked for several minutes before making the call with {A-Hearts} {J-Spades} for just ace high. Kapalas mucked and Schlein took it down.

    Lucky Seven

    We've reached the 10:00-mark on the clock, and it's time to pull a card. The floor person drew a seven, and we'll play that many hands before we wrap it up.

    Lupovich Drinking Double

    Jason Helder opened with a raise to 28,000 from early position, and Eric Lupovich reraised to 120,000 a few seats down the line. When it came back around the table, Helder moved all in, and Lupovich called all in for a total of 270,000.

    Showdown
    Helder: {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}
    Lupovich: {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts}

    The board would run safe for the all-in player and his tens. It showed up {J-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {J-Spades} {9-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}. With his three pair, Lupovich earns a big double up to 560,000. He's not hot on the heels of Helder's 580,000.

    Re-Updated Plans

    We told you these things work out differently every time.

    The floor staff has decided to change plans on us again. It looks like we're only going to play out this last level after all. When the clock hits 00:00, we'll bag it up and come back tomorrow.

    Updated Plans

    These Day 2's tend to work out differently depending on the exact schedule. We've just been told that we're not quite done after this level. We're going to take a 10-minute break when the level expires, and then we'll play 20 more minutes of the next level before bagging up for the night right at 3:00am.

    Jamie Roberts Eliminated

    Jamie Roberts opened the pot for a raise from early position and the small blind moved all in. Roberts called.

    Small Blind: {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}
    Roberts: {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}

    The board kept the queens safe and Roberts is crippled, down to his last 10,000.

    * * *

    On the next hand, Jamie Roberts is eliminated

    Jasper Merts Doubles through with Big Slick

    A player raised from the cutoff to 29,000 and Jasper Merts moved all in for 175,000 from the big blind. His opponent called after a session in the tank.

    Merts: {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}
    Opponent: {10-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}

    The board came {K-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {3-Hearts} pairing the ace of Merts, allowing him to double up to 365,000.
