    Day 5 Done and Dusted

    The carnage came thick and fast today, as we hit our target in record time for the second day running. 407 runners became 185 in three short levels, as the Amazon went crazy in a bid to chip up or ship out before Day 6.

    Among those who couldn't stand the pace were David Levi, Sorel Mizzi, Thor Hansen, Kara Scott, Dan Harrington and Bobby Baldwin. Among those who remain in the running, though, are such luminaries as Phil Ivey, Ludovic Lacay, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Tom Schneider, James Akenhead and Joe Hachem.

    Our overnight chip leader is one Mr. Warren Zackey -- his stack has swelled to 5 million in the three levels we managed to get through today. Plenty of folks are on his tail, though, so this is still very definitely anyone's game. Bring on the pain...

    Lou Diamond Phillips Eliminated

    On the last hand of the night, Lou Diamond Phillips was all in before the flop with pocket kings against two player - both with pocket aces.

    The board couldn't bring any help for Phillips, eliminating him from the tournament and the two players holding aces split the pot.

    Lieu Long Gone

    With just 170,000 chips left, Paul Lieu open-shoved all in with {5-Clubs} {5-Diamonds}. Craig Boyd was in the small blind, and he looked down at {K-Diamonds} {K-Spades} and made the call.

    The board ran out {10-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {3-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}, a clean sheet for Boyd. His kings hold to knock off Paul Lieu as the day nears its conclusion.

    Ivey Busts Verdonschot On the Last Hand

    On the last hand at his table, Phil Ivey called Huub Verdonschot's all in for 286,000. Ivey held pocket eights and Verdonschot held {A-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}.

    The board ran out {J-Spades} {9-Hearts} {2-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {3-Hearts} and Ivey won the hand, eliminating Verdonschot in the process. Ivey will now bag up about 1.4 million chips for tomorrow.

    Boeken Moving On Up

    Noah Boeken has won a frankly enormous pot, his {A-Clubs} {A-Spades} staying well ahead of Corey Hochman's {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts} once they flipped their cards following a preflop raising war.

    Board: {3-Spades} {8-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {8-Spades}

    Hochman is no more, while Boeken moves on up to 2.4 million.

    Tran Fades Spades, Overcards

    We pick up three-way action on a flop showing {10-Spades} {6-Hearts} {2-Spades}, and Nasr El Nasr was first to act from the blinds. He checked, and J.C. Tran made a bet of 30,000. Alper Sar called, and El Nasr moved all in with a big covering stack. With 331,000 chips left, Tran made the call for his tournament life, and Sar quickly mucked out of the way.

    Tran tabled {A-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} for top-top. He had the best hand, but El Nasr's {Q-Spades} {J-Spades} gave him a monster draw. The {3-Clubs} on the turn was an airball, and a blank hit the river as well with the {6-Diamonds}. Tran somehow fades the myriad of outs, doubling his way up to 820,000.

    Antonio Chippin' Up

    Over at the secondary feature table Adam Sanders has just been eliminated by Antonio Esfandiari. We couldn't see how it went down but after a few raises they got it all in preflop.

    Esfandiari showed {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs} and Sanders was a fair bit behind tabling {10-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} . The board ran out {4-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {K-Clubs} {8-Spades} {3-Spades} .

    The Magician is now up to approximately 1,200,000 in chips.

    Luu Likes Eights

    Mike Greco opened the pot for a 36,000 raise and Hieu Luu reraised from behind. Greco moved all in for about 270,000 and Luu called.

    Greco: {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}
    Luu: {8-Clubs} {8-Diamonds}

    The board kept Greco's kings safe and he doubles up to 560,000.

    * * *

    Shortly after Luu is involved with another all in preflop hand while holding {8-Spades} {8-Hearts} against the {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts} of Mike Linn. However, this time the result would turn out better for Luu as the board came {10-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {K-Spades} giving him a set of eights.

    Hieu Luu - 2,000,000
