Event 18 - $5,000 Limit Holdem

Day 3 Completed

Saro Getzoyan Wins the $5,000 Limit Hold'em Title

In the small blind, Geoff Sanford raised and Saro Getzoyan called. The flop came {J-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, and Getzoyan led out. Sanford raised, and after thinking a short time Getzoyan re-raised. At this point Sanford was committed, and all his chips were soon in the pot. He turned over {9-Hearts}{8-Spades} for middle pair -- but Gezoyan held {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for top pair.

The {J-Clubs} on the turn gave Getzoyan two pair, leaving Sanford dead to an eight. And the river brought the {7-Diamonds}, giving the hand, the title, the $333,379 first prize, and the bracelet to Saro Getzoyan. Geoff Sanford, a most worthy runner-up who just couldn't hit a hand once we reached heads-up play, finishes second and collects $200,511.

Slanted Table?

All the chips are going Saro Getzoyan's way. He just won another huge pot when, after Sanford called him on the flop and raised on the turn, the board of {4-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{J-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{A-Clubs} made both players check. Getzoyan held {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and Sanford couldn't beat his fours.

Sanford is in dire straits now.

Friendly Game

The players are sitting in the 7 and 9 seats, across from each other and very close. They both have their game faces on...but then there will be a stray comment and both of them will break out in wide, relaxed smiles. Until the next deal comes and the shields go up.

Brutal River

With the board reading {2-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Spades}{7-Clubs}{3-Hearts} Sanford checked and Getzoyan bet. Sanford thought a bit before making the call, and Getzoyan turned over {A-Clubs}{3-Spades}, for a pair on the river. Sanford took one last look at his A-Q before throwing it in the muck.

Just Like That

Another pot won on the flop and Geoff Sanford is nearly back to even terms with Saro Getzoyan. The blinds are so big right now that it could all turn on a single hand.
