Online Poker Weekend: 'Romanoff11', 'Claw1980' Big Winners

Online Poker Weekend: 'Romanoff11', 'Claw1980' Big Winners 0001

Eric 'Rizen' Lynch, one of the first recognizable screen names among major online poker pros, has proven that he's still got what it takes, making a Full Tilt final table just before Christmas. Daniel 'KidPoker' Negreanu also made a strong finish, possibly the highest in his short career on PokerStars. PartyPoker and PokerStars' big tournaments had no trouble flying past their guarantees, while unusually, Full Tilt paid out a small overlay.

PokerStars Sunday Million

It would be a great holiday for several online players on PokerStars, as 6,680 players created a $1,336,000 prize pool. This meant that first place would receive $192,116.80, and 900 places would be paid out.

PokerStars-sponsored pros fared very well in this event, especially if you happened to formerly play StarCraft professionally. Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospelier and Hevad 'RaiNKhAN' Khan both fit that bill, finishing in 573rd and 166th, respectively. Also cashing high were Steve "stevejpa" Paul-Ambrose in 115th and Daniel "KidPoker" Negreanu in 82nd.

First out at this event's final table was bark1976. He raised to 1,250,000 preflop and Romanoff11 called. The flop was {4-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{a-Spades}, and bark1976 was all in immediately. Romanoff11 requested time and finally called with {a-Clubs}{3-Spades} to bark1976's {j-Spades}{10-Spades}. The turn and river were {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and bark1976 took $8,283.20 for ninth.

Next, andy914 raised to 625,000 and benmar went all in. andy914 called and flipped {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds} to benmar's {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}. A race it was, and the board of {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{9-Spades} counterfeited benmar's fives. He was sent home in eighth for $13,360.

It would be 18 more minutes of play before the next bustout. Farcry open-shoved in the hijack and snider called with {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} after using up a bunch of his time bank. Farcry had {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, but the board read {q-Spades}{j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}. Farcry left in seventh for $22,044.

Again, another 18 minutes went by without anyone going out. In the hijack, Romanoff11 raised to 1,200,000 and TheSlyOldFox called. The flop was {j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. TheSlyOldFox checked. Romanoff11 bet 1,200,000 again. TheSlyOldFox check-raised all in, and Romanoff11 called. TheSlyOldFox had {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Romanoff11 had {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}. The board was {j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and TheSlyOldFox got $30,728 for sixth.

Bluffman9000 open-shoved under the gun and snider re-raised all in to isolate. Succeeding in this, snider took 3/4 of his stack back and flipped {a-Spades}{k-Spades} to Bluffman9000's {a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. The board was {q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} and Bluffman9000 left in fifth for $42,885.60.

Another open-shove happened soon after, this time from andy914. snider did another isolation re-shove and succeeded again. snider turned over {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} to andy914's {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. The board was {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{q-Spades} and andy914 left in fourth for $56,112.

Despite eliminating back-to-back players, snider was next out. He raised to 1,800,000 in the small blind and Romanoff11 re-raised all in. littlepotato folded and snider showed {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} to Romanoff11's {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. The bad beat of the final table candidate #1 was this hand, as the board was {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}, kicking out snider in third for $72,010.40.

Romanoff11 had a 2.7-to-1 lead going into heads up, and littlepotato's comeback attempt fell short. In the last hand, Romanoff11 raised to 2,400,000 and littlepotato re-raised all in. Romanoff11 called with {k-Spades}{j-Clubs} to littlepotato's {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. The board was {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and littlepotato collected $100,066.40 for second.
