Online Poker Weekend: Big Turnouts at PokerStars, Full Tilt

Online Poker Weekend: Big Turnouts at PokerStars, Full Tilt 0001

Solid turnouts marked Sunday's action in major poker events across the Internet. In the two largest, Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey came to final table of the PokerStars Sunday Million in third place, then found good fortune to take down the win, and David "Doc Sands" Sands took the lead into the final of the Full Tilt $750,000 Guaranteed and rode through to victory. Here's how the action unfolded:

PokerStars Sunday Million

The PokerStars Sunday Million drew its biggest field in quite a while with 8,001 entrants, creating a total prize pool of $1,600,200. Notable finishers included Christian "charder30" Harder in 48th ($2,560.32), Owen "ocrowe" Crowe in 52nd ($2,560.32), and Brett "gank" Jungblut in 79th ($2,240.28). The chip counts to start the final table were the following:

svansa - 19,352,418

fratzl - 17,516,137

Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey - 12,725,996

PureProfitFo - 11,800,471

1bobbyL - 6,220,333

ankolo - 4,635,660

NewsKoooL - 3,712,744

Terkel1 - 2,165,369

omba - 1,880,872

The first to be sent home from the final table was omba at the 125,000/250,000/25,000 level. Under the gun, omba shoved in his last 1,760,872 with {a-Spades}{j-Spades} and found action from NewsKoooL who held {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}. The board ran out {5-Spades}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and omba was out in ninth place for $11,201.40. PureProfitFo bit the dust next after a raise to 650,000 from early position. In the small blind, svansa reraised to 1,750,000 and PureProfitFo shoved for 8,965,471 with {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}; svansa called, tabling {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}. The race situation ended in svansa's favor as the board came {k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. PureProfitFo earned $18,402.30 for the eighth-place showing.

At 150,000/300,000/30,000, ankolo fell. Fratzl opened to 1,200,000 from early position and ankolo shipped it all in for 4,720,660 from the big blind. A quick call from fratzl revealed his {k-Spades}{q-Spades} to be racing against ankolo's {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}. A queen on the turn would seal ankolo's fate as the seventh-place finisher for $28,003.50. 1bobbyL was next to be sent to the rail. From the small blind, Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey raised to 740,000 and 1bobbyL moved all in from the big blind for 8,450,666. Turmezey called with {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and caught 1bobbyL making a move with {10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. The board rolled out {q-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and 1bobbyL was eliminated in sixth for $40,805.10.

The 200,000/400,000/40,000 level saw the last of Terkel1 at the final table. Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey raised to 2,800,000 from the small blind and Terkel1 went all in for 6,151,476 with {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Turmezey called with {k-Clubs}{7-Spades} and saw the board run out {k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. Terkel1 took home $56,807.10 for fifth place. A long four-handed battle ended with svansa finishing in fourth. The blinds and antes were 300,000/600,000/30,000. Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey raised to 1,450,000 from the small blind and svansa reraised to 4,200,000 in the blind. Twirlpro called and saw the flop bring {7-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{a-Hearts} before betting enough to set svansa all in. A quick call from svansa, holding {a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for top pair, meant that Turmezey's {8-Spades}{7-Spades} trailed. However, the turn came the {10-Spades} to keep Turmezey's draws alibe, and the {5-Spades} river game him the winning flush. Svansa took home $72,809.10. NewsKoooL was Turmezey's next victim. Again from the small blind, Turmezey raised and set his opponent all in. NewsKoooL called all in for 8,570,492 with {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and led twirlpro's {k-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. The board came {8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} as Turmezey again pulled out a runner-runner flush for the win. NewsKoooL's third-place finish paid $89,611.20.

Heads-up play began with these chip counts:

Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey - 37,782,346

fratzl - 42,224,654

Peter Turmezey took control of the battle and the match ended at the 500,000/1,000,000/100,000 level. Fratzl called the big blind and twirlpro raised to 4,000,000. After a short deliberation, fratzl shoved for just over 20,000,000 and Turmezey called, turning up {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}. Fratzl's {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} needed help and some arrived on the {2-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{j-Clubs} flop. The turn and river, though, came {5-Clubs}{k-Hearts} and fratzl went to the rail as runner-up for $132,176.52. The winner of the PokerStars Sunday Million, collecting $196,024.50, was Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey.

Ravenut was the first to be eliminated. In a battle of the short stacks, Ravenut's tournament life was on the line with {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} against Chairdaddy's {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. The board ran out {9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and Ravenut finished in ninth place for $10,050. Falling next was cosmo after running {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} into Big_Lou-Aces' {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. No eight would find the table and cosmo departed in eighth for $13,500. At 30,000/60,000/7,500, Chairdaddy busted. From middle position, dignan550 opened to 120,000 and David "Doc Sands" Sands popped it up to 364,285 in the cutoff. Chairdaddy thought for a few moments before calling all in from the small blind for 276,223, and dignan550 called as well. The flop came {2-Spades}{8-Hearts}{8-Spades} and action checked to Sands, who successfully isolated the pot with a bet. He showed {j-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and led Chairdaddy's {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}. The turn and river did not save Chairdaddy, who finished in seventh for $17,250. Also unable to survive the level was dignan550. A6540 shoved from the button for 755,809 with {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and dignan550 called all in from the small blind for 629,834 with {a-Spades}{q-Spades}. The board came {9-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and Big_Lou-Aces was out in fifth for $31,050. When the 50,000/100,000/10,000 level arrived, A6540 busted in fourth place. From the button, andressoprano moved all in with the biggest stack. A6540 called from the big blind with {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} and led andressoprano's {q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. However, the board came {7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and A6540 exited in fourth for $41,400. Shortly after, tibzen was sent packing in third place. In a three-way pot with tibzen all in preflop, David Sands and andressoprano checked down a {q-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{j-Spades}{2-Spades} board until the river, when Sands bet out. Andressoprano folded and Sands showed {9-Spades}{5-Spades} for a flush. Tibzen cashed for $52,500 with the third-place showing.

At the start of heads-up play, the chip counts were as follows:

David "Doc Sands" Sands - 6,032,450

It came to an end at 60,000/120,000/15,000. Andressoprano opened to 320,000 and David Sands made it 865,385 to go. The board ran out {9-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and it was over.
