Adrian Mateos Among Big Sunday Winners at 888poker in January

Sundays are typically the biggest day of the week at the world's second largest real-money online poker network 888poker with many regularly scheduled tournaments boasting bigger than normal guaranteed prize pools.

Those coincides with a handful of special tournaments including the Mega Deep and the Sunday Challenge each weekend, plus the Whale and the Baby Whale on alternating Sundays.

In January, Sundays were even more special thanks to a special $500,000 Super Whale on Jan. 15 followed by huge tournaments the next two Sundays as part of the fifth edition of the Super XL Series.

Belarus' "Enigmasility" was easily the biggest single winner of the month after taking down Event #57 $1,500,000 Super XL - Main Event on Jan. 29 for $262,200. Big names on the final table included Dennis "CasinoPro888" Berglin (seventh - $45,000), Tomas "poohmancz" Petru (eighth - $30,000) and Adrian "ADRI_ATM" Mateos (ninth - $17,250).

Mateos banked double his ninth-place win a week earlier when he shipped Event #13 $150,000 Super XL - Mega Deep for $34,524. The Spanish poker pro tweeted to his more than 10,000 Twitter followers his joy about winning big after a huge 16-hour poker session.

Ukraine's Aleks "fNx_R" Trofimenko also managed a huge win after outlasting a field of 1,512 players to win Event #58 $200,000 Super XL - Mini Main Event for $55,590. On the same day, Australian poker player Corey "Corlusion" Kempson won Event #60 $100,000 Super XL - Sunday Challenge for $21,997.

Players also won big before the Super XL. On Jan. 15, "Slaaasch" and "ZDamian" agreed to a heads-up deal in the $500,000 Super Whale awarding the duo $79,382 and $74,090, respectively.

Other winners of big Sunday events during January included American poker refugee Mark "PennyHrdaway" Darner taking down the $50,000 Sunday Challenge 1R on Jan. 1 for $11,698, Finland's Olii "Jarildur1" Ikonen taking first place as part of a three-way deal in the $100,000 Whale on Jan. 8 for $26,523 and American poker refugee Sam "WishuluckBRO" Phillips shipping the $80,000 Sunday Challenge 1R for $16,448.
