Sunday Briefing: Big Weekend for Philipp Gruissem

Philipp "philbort" Gruissem

Germany’s Philipp “philbort” Gruissem is widely regarded as one of the best poker players of his generation and his $3,058,099 in online winnings and his $10,135,305 live tournament winnings are a testament to that.

This weekend, Gruissem took to the partypoker virtual felt where he competed in some Powerfest events. It was a great decision on his part because he won the $500,000 guaranteed Main Event for $80,779 then went on to finish sixth in the $1,000,000 guaranteed Main Event for an additional $41,320.

Although impressive, Gruissem’s cash haul was not the largest at partypoker this weekend. That honor went to “Algorhytm” who topped a field of 211 players in the $1,000,000 Gtd Super High Roller, turning $5,200 into $226,825.

Another huge score is now in the partypoker account of “gotthereagain” who won the $1,000,000 guaranteed Main Event for a bankroll-boosting $175,610.

Some of the other big victories at partypoker on Feb. 5 included “ReggaeDiBaralho” who won the $100,000 Gtd Freezeout for $17,170, “sstoyanov1” who won the $150,000 Gtd Freezeout for $19,082 and “RIP_HARAMBE” who took down the $300,000 Gtd High Roller for $63,791.

Over at PokerStars, the $215 Sunday Million ended in a three-handed chip. Sweden’s Anton “MORTIIIIIIII” Herrmann was crowned champion and banked $129,686 with “pokerjoe485” finishing as runner-up for $93,000. Third place went to “good2850” who collected $105,669 courtesy of the aforementioned deal.
