Nick Petrangelo

Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player's results over six half-year periods. For a look at the entire list, visit the official GPI website. Here's a look at the rankings as of June 7.

The first results from the 2017 World Series of Poker have yet to have too big of an effect on the top of the 2017 Global Poker Index Player of the Year leaderboard, although Bryn Kenney — No. 1 now for 18 straight weeks — has already seen his lead reduced.

Nick Petrangelo sits at No. 2 again this week, but cut Kenney's points lead from 270 to just under 100 thanks to Petrangelo having added just over 170 points to his total after a 17th-place finish and cash in Event #6: $111,111 High Roller for One Drop won by Doug Polk.

Byron Kaverman took 12th in the High Roller for One Drop, following a fifth-place finish just a few days before in the $300,000 Super High Roller Bowl won by Christoph Vogelsang. Those two finishes helped Kaverman move up from No. 9 to No. 6 in the POY race.

Meanwhile Andreas Klatt climbs a couple of spots to join the list at No. 10 after already picking up a couple of WSOP cashes. Klatt comes to Vegas not long after his victory in the PokerStars National Championship at the PokerStars Championship presented by Monte-Carlo Casino® as well as his runner-up finish in the PokerStars Championship Monte-Carlo Main Event won by Raffaele Sorrentino.
