WSOP Day 25: Can Matusow Win 5th WSOP Bracelet in the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E?

With another weekend underway at the WSOP, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow is looking for yet another final table this summer and fifth bracelet in the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. Several big names also return for action on Saturday in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em and $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo. In the $1,500 Shootout, Jonathan Little remains in the final 12 and looking for his first bracelet.

Event #43: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em SHOOTOUT

The shootout continued on Friday and only 12 remain to battle it out for the title on Saturday. On Day 2, 120 players returned to 12 tables and those remaining are now guaranteed at least $16,844. No doubt the bracelet and $257,764 first-place money will be on everyone’s mind now.

The final 12 returning include Phachara Wongwichit, Thomas Boivin, Joe Cook, Tim West, Alex Rocha, Matas Dilpsas, Robert Kuhn, Paul Michaels, Ben Mays, Ross Ward, Steve Foutty, and Jonathan Little. Event #44: $3,000 H.O.R.S.E.

The H.O.R.S.E. action continued on Friday and Day 2 narrowed the field from 156 to 18 players coming back on Saturday. Tom Koral leads the field with 770,000 chips. Koral has numerous cashes in live poker tournaments ($1.8 million) but is still seeking that first bracelet. It won’t be easy. Rounding out the top five are Phil Hui (516,000), Marcus Mizzi (485,000), Gabe Paul (485,000), and David Steicke (441,000). Also still remaining are four-time bracelet winner Mike Matusow and two-time winner Ryan Hughes. Matusow is looking for his fourth final table of the summer and another shot at some hardware.

Event #45: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em (30-minute levels)

With short levels, the pace was swift for rounders in this one. The two-day tournament attracted 505 entries for a $2.4 million prize pool, and 49 returning for Saturday’s culmination of this event. Mexico City’s Diego Sanchez (660,000 chips) leads the field of 49 players heading into Day 2 of this two-day event. Sanchez is looking for his first bracelet and the $527,555 first-place prize.

Following Sanchez are Dennis Blieden (561,000), Jacob Bazeley (509,000), and Conor Beresford (504,000). Some others advancing include Chris Moorman (170,000), Frank Kassela (444,000), Aditya Agarwal (416,000), Yevgeniy Timoshenko (385,000), and Max Silver (504,000). Event #46: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better

The PLO was back underway and featured 830 entries, 98 more than last year, for a prize pool of over $1 million. Many big names joined in on the action, but after 10 levels only 151 players remain. With a massive 251,000 in chips, Marcos Fernandez leads the field into Day 2. Rounding out the top three are Miguel Use (160,500) and John O'Shea (127,000).

Other notables remaining include David “ODB” Baker (18,200), Calvin Anderson (79,000), Barny Boatman (54,000), David Bach (18,400), Ben Yu (46,300), Barry Greenstein (24,100), John Monnette (47,400), Jeff Gross (6,000), Ray Henson (61,000), and Fabrice Soulier (45,000). With 125 places paid, players will be close to the money upon restart. A minimum cash is $2,249, and the winner takes home $223,339. Event #19C: THE GIANT - $365 No-Limit Hold'em

The third flight in this event attracted 1,606 entries and 198 advance to July 8’s Day 2, which brings together all players from each Friday night flight. Two starting flights remain – June 30 and July 7.

Todd Louer bagged the biggest stack of this flight (730,000). Some other notables advancing from this flight include Niall Farrell (559,000) and Dietrich Fast (377,000). Valentin Vornicu currently holds the biggest starting flight stack with 869,500. PokerNews will have all the updates as the Giant plays out.

Event #47: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em MONSTER STACK

The Colossus, the Giant, and now the Monster. This five-day event offers two starting flights (Saturday and Sunday) beginning at 10 a.m. However, this event doesn’t allow re-entry and players must choose one of the flights in which to play. The Monster also brings a monster payday. Mitchell Towner, of Austin, Texas, took home the bracelet in 2016 and $1.12 million in an event that attracted 6,927 entries for a prize pool of $9.4 million. Event #48: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship

This event returns to the Rio attracting rounders hoping to be named the champion in this classic game. George Danzer took down last year’s title for $338,646. The Brazilian has four bracelets and also won the event in 2014. He has shined in events featuring forms of seven card stud, final tabling eight times at the WSOP since 2012 in either seven stud or mixes featuring it. Last year’s event featured 135 players and a prize pool of $1.3 million. The action gets underway at 3 p.m. and has the action through every street.
