Global Poker Eagle Cup Shows Early Success in Opening Week

Global Poker Eagle Cup Shows Early Success in Opening Week 0001

Global Poker had high hopes for their biggest series to date, and the early numbers less than a week into the event have already exceeded those lofty expectations. The Eagle Cup, the first leg of the Global Poker Championships, kicked off on Oct. 1 with a SC$10,000 freeroll that drew an impressive 2,667 players with ‘Atarimaster’ outlasting the massive field.

‘Atarimaster’ got heads up with ‘Joe161’ in the opening freeroll. In the final hand, ‘Atarimaster’ was all in with A7 against the KK of ‘Joe161’ and remained behind in the hand until the miracle A landed on the river. With a pair of aces, ‘Atarimaster’ won the hand and closed out the tournament, banking the SC$1,565 first-place prize and scoring the first Global Poker Champions Pack complete with a Global Poker shirt and cap and engraved Eagle Cup trophy delivered to his door in Charlotte, North Carolina – a pretty good start to the series.

No Overlays to be Seen

All fields in the subsequent tournaments to date have seen record numbers of participants, resulting in none of the frequent overlays that have resulted in past Global Poker daily tournaments. While overlays are exciting for players, the vast growth of the player pool on Global Poker is benefitting players too as prize pools swell past their guarantees.

Entries have more than doubled over the first week of the Eagle Cup, putting the series on track to pay out much more than the $1,250,000 in guaranteed cash prizes.

Eagle Cup Leaderboard

Players can rack up points for running deep in Eagle Cup events to compete for the Eagle Cup Leaderboard, which is offering up $15,000 in added value. The overall leaderboard winner will get the opportunity to represent Global Poker in the live arena with a $5,000 live tournament package that includes money for tournament buy-ins, travel and accommodation.

‘Stella Blue’ is currently the series leader with 320 points, but there is much poker left on the docket before it’s all said and done.

Upcoming Schedule

The second week of the Eagle Cup features plenty more tournament action with three tiers of buy-ins for each event. In addition to a variety of No-Limit Hold’em events, the first-ever Fixed-Limit tournaments on Global Poker will also be taking place on Oct. 8. The Big Ante events, where the antes go up and the blinds remain the same, will also be happening next week on Oct. 14.

On Sunday, don’t miss out on the biggest event of the week, the $110 buy-in SC$15,000 Guarantee 2R1A No-Limit Hold’em event that kicks off at 4:15 EST.
