Ladies Global Poker Index: Bicknell Still Leads POY & Overall Races

Similar to the overall GPI article that comes out on the first Thursday of every month, the Ladies Global Poker Index report highlights the rankings of the best female poker players in the world, with an update released on the third Thursday of each month. Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player's results over six half-year periods. Here, we take a look at both the top 10 female 2018 Player of the Year standings and the ladies overall GPI rankings as of Nov. 14. 2018 Ladies GPI Player of the Year Standings

Kristen Bicknell still leads both the 2018 Ladies Player of the Year race and the ladies overall GPI rankings. She recently collected 182.48 more GPI points in the partypoker WPT Montreal C$10,300 High Roller for finishing in sixth place out of 97 runners for a payday of C$48,000 ($36,612).

That finish has helped Bicknell extend her lead over Maria Lampropulos in both races by a small margin. Amazingly, Bicknell's partner Alex Foxen now leads the overall POY and GPI rankings, providing further fodder for their "poker power couple" designation.

Rounding out the top five on the ladies POY once again are Loni Harwood, Maria Ho and Maria Konnikova. While the top ten POY ladies remain the same, there was some movement among the rankings. Anna Antimony moved from 10th on the POY list up to No. 6 after a 21st-place finish in the $1,700 WSOP Circuit Hammond Main Event in October that drew 1,094 entries. Her upward move pushed the other four on the top ten list down just one notch each.

Kelly Minkin is also on the rise, but sits just outside of the top 10 in the POY race, 1,475 points out from No. 1. She'll have her work cut out for her to catch Bicknell — with less than two months left in the year, a bid to win ladies POY may have to wait until 2019.

Overall Ladies GPI Top Ten

Antimony also climbed one spot, from No. 8 to No. 7 on the overall GPI standings since last month’s report. The top five on that list remain the same, while the bottom half of the top 10 has seen some significant change since October.

The biggest change in the rankings is Minkin cracking the top 10, moving up to No. 6 in the overall ladies GPI rankings. A recent deep WPT run is responsible for her big jump, as Minkin finished third of 356 in the $5,000 WPT bestbet Bounty Scramble in October. That finish was worth 330.97 GPI points, while the previous month she earned 137.84 points for a 44th-place finish in the $3,500 WPT Maryland Live! Main Event.

With Minkin joining the top 10 overall GPI and Antimony climbing a spot, Gao Wenling, Kitty Kuo and Maria Konnikova have slid slightly and now occupy spots Nos. 8-10, respectively. Nadya Magnus dropped from 10th down to No. 12 on the standings, while Saya Ono sits just outside the top 10.

In terms of the Overall Top 100 GPI list, Bicknell and Lampropulos still remain. Bicknell slipped from 14th to 18th since the last report, and Lampropulos is No. 83, down from No. 59 last month.
