Mamonov Leads Final 40 in the partypoker Irish Open Main Event

Day 2 kicked off with 280 players remaining, each guaranteed a healthy min-cash of €2,138. Just 40 players remained by the time the closing bell rang after 10 blind levels of 30 minutes each were in the books.

Maxim Mamonov bagged the chip lead with a stack of 23,121,626 with Bulgaria's Stoyan Obreshkov not too far behind with 22,663,600. Igor Dursel, Victor Bonifacio, Justus Held, and Julian Adamson are all closely bunched together between 83 and 94 big blinds and just behind Mamonov and Obreshkov on the chip count leaderboard.

Meanwhile, Luke Geater was the only player in the top 10 waving an Irish flag at partypoker. Others in the top 10 included Franco Spitale, Pavlo Kolinkovskyi, and Ivan Tononi.

Meanwhile, Artsiom Prostak was the chip leader to start Day 2. He managed to survive into Day 3 but has his work cut out for him as he will have the shortest stack in play when the action resumes with a stack of 1,269,196.

Patrick Leonard enters Day 3 in 28th place

Team partypoker will be well represented on Day 2 with both poker streamer Matthew Staples (27th - 6,067,906) and all-around poker boss Patrick Leonard (28th - 5,757,994).

While both of these stacks are below average, they do provide plenty of playable as Leonard pointed out as they have 30 big blinds and 28 big blinds respectfully and the blinds increase slowly on Day 3 with 40-minute levels.

Will the Irish Open Main Event Trophy Stay in Ireland?

One question on some players minds — especially those from Ireland — is whether the trophy will remain on home soil. The hopes of the Emerald Isle are still alive with five players waving the Irish flag at partypoker.

Two of those players were already mentioned in the top 10 in Luke Geater (eighth - 12,903,308) and Ivan Tonini (tenth - 12,752,134). They will be joined by Daniel Smyth (16th - 9,460,506), Gareth Shields (19th - 8,914,746), and Shaun Conroy (23rd - 8,425,972).

Many other Irish players advanced to Day 2 but no further including Day 1b chip leader Marc MacDonnell who finished in 72nd place for €3,522.
