Million Dollar Cash Game

Day 2 Started

Setting Up for Insanity

Play should be underway shortly for the second day of the Million Dollar Cash Game. If yesterday's action was any indication, the money will be flying around the felt. There are already stacks of chips worth $100,000 in front of each seat, but that's only the minimum buy-in. Many players will start with more and others will find themselves reloading quickly. At $500/$1,000 with a $1,000 button ante, no limit hold'em gets expensive.

No word on the official line up yet, as players are still negotiating for their spots. Justin "Boosted J" Smith, David Benyamine, David Oppenheim, and Mike Matusow are in the vicinity and more players are on the way. The most compelling action yesterday came from three Asian businessmen who traveled from Macau to join the game in Melbourne. All three are currently still alive in Day 1c of the Main Event, so they won't be joining us just yet.

Haggling Over Stakes

The players are currently debating what stakes they want to play and where to set the buy-in since today they will all start with even stacks. David Oppenheim joked that they should start with $100k and play $1k/$2k, but he seems to actually be advocating for $400/$800.

David Benyamine would prefer $500/$1k since it's faster to make change and keep the game going. He also suggested a $150k starting stack. Mike Matusow said he wanted it to be $100k. "The bigger the buy-in, the smaller the game will play," Benyamine said. "I know," Matusow responded. "I want action."

We'll let you know what they decide.

Consensus

It took some wrangling, but they've finally decided on playing $400/$800 with a $1,000 button ante. They can raise the stakes at any point.

All are starting with $100,000.

Line Up

Seat 1: Patrik Antonius
Seat 2: Justin Smith
Seat 3: Tom Dwan
Seat 4: Andrew Feldman
Seat 5: Mike Matusow
Seat 6: David Benyamine
Seat 7: Erik Cajelais
Seat 8: David Oppenheim

Props for Yearly Salaries

The players are currently discussing prop bets for the session. They agreed to pick suits of cards and three cards each but ran into a sticking point when Patrik Antonius insisted on playing for $50,000 a pop. David Oppenheim wanted to play for $10,000, but Antonius said that wasn't enough to bother diverting his energy from the game.

Antonius was the big winner yesterday. He kept changing his suits and finished the night up $275,000 in props.

Cooler for Cajelais

Mike Matusow is on a role. The flop fell {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, and there was a bet and a call. The turn card was made for television - the {10-Spades}. Erik Cajelais moved all in, and Matusow called.

Cajelais: {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} for a jack-high straight
Matusow: {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for a king-high straight

The {j-Hearts} river was irrelevant. Matusow quietly (yes, we know) raked in the $205,000 pot, and Cajelais is quickly down a buy-in.

"What a cooler," said one player. "Yeah, luckily I got away from it," deadpanned Erik.

Shades or No Shades?

There has recently been some discussion about wearing sunglasses in cash games. Tom Dwan is vocally against it, and many other pros have taken positions on either side of the debate. No one wore sunglasses yesterday, and David Oppenheim is the only player wearing them today. He got a little needling at the beginning of the session but didn't engage.

Hungry Statue

Could somebody feed Patrik Antonius please? He might look like he's made of granite sometimes, but the man needs to eat. His wife Maya was here earlier but said she'd already eaten, so he decided to eat during the game. He's called for a room menu several times but is still waiting to order.
