Day 4 Started
Things are getting serious at the APPT Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event. Just 30 players remain as the event gets down to the business end. Everyone is guaranteed at least AU$30,000 right now but the payout jumps will get steeper as the day progresses.
Raiden Can leads heading in to today after a great second half of the day yesterday. He leads a top five that looks like:
1 Raiden Kan 1,775,000
2 Andrew Chen 1,165,000
3 Brian Rast 1,156,000
4 Gerald Karlic 1,085,000
5 Richard Lyndaker 943,000
Defending champion Ami Barer doubled on the second to last hand yesterday to give himself a fighting chance of defending his title and a certain Phil Ivey will be looking to repeat the calm and collected manner he showed at the tables yesterday.
There's no time limit on how long play will continue today, it'll stop when the final table of seven is reached. Join is back here at 12:30PM when the race to the final table will commence.

On the very first hand, Tony Hachem was asked the question for his tournament life but ultimately folded.
Brian Rast opened from under the gun and Hachem defended his big blind to see a flop. Rast continued for 32,000 and was check-raised up to 75,000. Rast played with his stack of T25,000 chips and slid a big pile across to set the Australian all in.
Hachem procrastinated for a while before he folded.

Gerald Karlic seemed to really hate folding in a sizeable hand versus Alex Lynskey just now.
A big pile of chips had ventured to the middle of the table by the time the board rested as and Karlic (SB) checked to face a 230,000 bet from Lynskey (CO). After several minutes of thought, he folded.

Alex Lynskey | 990,000 | 319,000 |

Brian Rast, one of three Americans remaining in the field, raised to 27,000 from the button and then called when Michael Pedley three-bet to 47,000 from the big blind. The flop saw Pedley bet 43,000, Rast called, and then the dealer burned and turned the .
Pedley bet again, this time 67,000, and Rast came along to see the river, which both players checked. Pedley tabled the for kings, and it was good as Rast mucked his hand.

Mike "Timex" McDonald began the day as the short stack, so it was no surprise to see him go first.
It happened when action folded to him on the button and he shoved for his last 120,000 or so. Defending champ Ami Barer called from the small blind, and the big got out of the way.

McDonald was behind, but at least he was drawing to two live cards. The flop wasn't very special, but the turn did make things interesting as McDonald picked up an open-ender, though Barer had flush blockers. Those scenarios proved to be a moot point though as the paired the board on the river and Barer won the pot with his king.

Sarkiss Osalian opened for 26,000 from the cutoff and Jannis Bräuer called from the button. Jesse McKenzie came along from the big blind and three players took a flop of . McKenzie checked, Osalian continued for 76,000, and Bräuer jammed for approximately 300,000. McKenzie got out of the way and then Osalian made a quick call.
Bräuer:
Osalian:
The Austrian had flopped top pair with top kicker, but it was way behind the overpair of Osalian. Neither the turn nor river helped Bräuer, and he shook hands with his vanquisher before making his way to the payout desk in 29th place.

Action folded to Australia's Dominic Coombe in the cutoff and he raised to 26,000. Chip leader Raiden Kan, who hails from Macau, then three-bet to 65,000 from the button, a move that inspired both blinds to get out of the way. Coombe opted to push back with a four-bet to 185,000, Kan five-bet all in, and Coombe called off his stack of what looked to be 600,000.
Coombe:
Kan:
Coombe was in a bad spot, and his best shot at survival was to catch an ace. The flop was no help, and neither was the turn. Coombe needed an ace and an ace only on the river to double, but it wasn't in the cards as the bricked. Coombe exited in 28th place for AU$30,000 while Kan extended his chip lead.
"The rich get richer," Terence Clee chimed.
