Day 1a of Event #1: $600 Deepstack Kick-Off at the Borgata Winter Poker Open has come to an end after 15 exciting levels of play and it is Emanuele "Manny" Gugliuzza leading the 65 survivors out of 405 entries. With the $2,000,000 guaranteed prize pool, it is expected that the fun has only just started as there are four more starting days coming up over the next two days at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

Gugliuzza shot to the top of the leaderboard early in the day when he sent two players out with his pocket nines that turned into a set. He continued his dominance throughout the rest of the day, finishing on top of the field with a stack of 419,000. Finishing right behind him in this flight is Michael Cohen with his 414,000 stack.

Other notable stacks to end the day include Reggie Jones (326,000), Charlie Marchese (269,000), Mike Volpe (263,000), and Borgata regular Michael Marder (246,000). A complete list of remaining players and their chip counts will be posted before the start of Day 2. This will also include the seat draw once this has been received from the organization.

That wraps it up for the first of five starting flights with Day 1b kicking off at 11 p.m. local time on Wednesday, January 15. Tune in tomorrow for the PokerNews updates on the next two starting flights as they unfold.

Stanislav Gordinskiy: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

Michael Marder opened to 7,000 from under the gun and a player in the hijack jammed their 29,000 stack into the middle. Marder called and the two turned over their cards.

Opponent: {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}
Michael Marder: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

The board came down {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{7-Spades} and Marder's boat took down the pot, eliminating another opponent in the process.

Cappuccio Spikes a Dime vs. Buzgon

Level 13 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

Dan Buzgon opened to 6,000 from middle position and Joe Cappuccio moved his 48,500 stack in the middle from the cutoff. Buzgon snapped and the two tabled their hands with Cappuccio at risk.

Joe Cappuccio: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Dan Buzgon: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}

The dealer fanned out {8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} on the flop and Buzgon was well in the lead with his pair of aces. A fortuitous card landed on the turn for Cappuccio when the {10-Spades} peeled off, giving him a set of dimes.

The {q-Spades} river did not alter anything as Cappuccio found a complete double up through Buzgon with his turned set of tens.
