Daniel Tu Leads Almighty Stack into Final Day with $195,903 Up Top!

Level 32 : 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante
Almighty Stack Day 2 Chipleader Daniel Tu
Almighty Stack Day 2 Chipleader Daniel Tu

The 2020 Borgata Winter Poker Open has now seen the second day of Event #13: $400 Almighty Stack come to an end after 15 levels of exciting poker action. The day started with 820 players and after the last chance saloon had closed for business only 37 players remained.

Leading the way into the final day is Daniel Tu who catapulted late in the day to the top when he flopped a set of sailboats, getting max value from his opponent and never fell out of that position throughout the rest of the night. Tu will be entering the final day with a monstrous 26,200,000 stack and is just one pay jump away from banking the biggest cash of his career.

Right behind Tu on the leaderboard is Eric Rivera with an even stack of 18,000,000. Unlike Tu, Rivera was on top of the field since the early stages of Day 2 and it was not until the last two levels of the night that someone really jumped out of his reach. The Marietta, GA, native will be looking to find his first five-figure cash and is an excellent position to do so, sitting in second of the final 37.

Rounding out the top five stacks are Bryann Tiam (17,100,000), David Meagher (13,700,000), and Matthew Pomponio (12,950,000). Meagher has the most experience of the top five, having over $134,000 in live career earnings and is an owner of a Borgata trophy. Look for him to stack up on the final day in hopes of securing his second trophy and first six-figure score.

This event held a $1,000,000 guarantee and it was easily surpassed when 3,359 entries were gathered, accumulating a total prize pool of $1,140,381. All of the 37 players to make Day 3 are getting at least a payday of $3,136 but every player that remains will have their eye set on that $195,903 first-place prize money, along with a new Borgata trophy.

Outside of the top five big stacks, there were many notable players to advance including Orson Young (12,300,000), Kareem Marshall (11,875,000), Luis Rodriguez (11,000,000), Event #10 winner Ryan Tamanini (9,075,000), Will "The Thrill" Failla (8,500,000), and Day 1b chipleader Alex Visbisky (4,975,000).

Players will return tomorrow at noon with the blinds of 200,000/400,000 and a big blind ante of 400,000. The tournament will not stop until a winner is crowned, leaving with a Borgata trophy and all of the $195,903 first-place money.

That wraps it up for PokerNews coverage of Day 2 in the Almighty Stack, but tune in tomorrow for all of the live updates as the action unfolds on the final day.

Rivera Continues to Prosper Late in the Day

Level 32 : 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante
Eric Rivera
Eric Rivera

The flop showed {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and a player led out for 1,200,000. Eric Rivera raised to 3,200,000 and his opponent elected to move all in, totaling about 4,000,000.

"Good game sir," said Rivera as he snap-called, tabling {a-Hearts}{q-Spades} for three ladies and his opponent then tabled {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for two pair.

The {a-Clubs} turn gave Rivera a boat and his opponent was then drawing dead to the {5-Clubs} river card, shipping the pot to Rivera.

Bryann Tiam

Jonathan Press opened to 800,000 from the cutoff, Bryann Tiam called on the button and the dealer fanned out {q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades} on the flop.

Press continued for 800,000 and Tiam called to see the {8-Clubs} turn card. Press tapped the table, Tiam then pushed in 1,650,000 and Press called without hesitation.

The dealer flipped over an {8-Hearts} and both players checked. Tiam tabled {k-Spades}{q-Spades} for queens over eights with a king kicker and it was good when Press showed the same two pair but a lower kicker, tabling {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}.

Fady Khabbaz opened and a player on his left moved all in for around 1,100,000. Bryann Tiam moved all in over the top and Fady Khabbaz called for his 1,700,000 stack.

Opponent: {a-Spades}{5-Clubs}
Fady Khabbaz: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Bryann Tiam: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}

The dealer spread out {q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Hearts} on the flop and Khabbaz took a commanding lead. An unthinkable {a-Hearts} peeled off on the turn, shifting the lead back to Tiam who held on to it when the {2-Clubs} completed the board, sending both of his opponents to the payout desk.

Andrew Dill Eliminated on the Bubble

Level 23 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
David Sathue
David Sathue

As play was being called to a halt for the bubble, Andrew Dill got his last chips in holding {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} against David Sathue, who had {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}. When all the other hands were completed, they ran out the board.

It fell safely for Dill, until the river that was: {k-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades}{q-Spades}. The queen paired Sathue and sent him the pot. Dill was eliminated in 301st place, on the bubble, earning $0.

That propelled the remaining 300 players into the money. They're all now guaranteed to cash for at least $787.

That also eliminated the need for any hand-for-hand play, so play has resumed at a normal pace.
