Brian Altman

A mere 174 players out of 1,290 entries will return to the poker tables for Day 3 of the $3,500 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship in the Event Center of the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa. The tournament featured a $3,000,000 guarantee and that was easily surpassed as a total prize pool of a whopping $4,129,290 was created with the winner walking away with an amazing first-place prize of $674,840.

Canada’s Patrick Serda is coming into Day 3 with the overall chip lead of 994,000 in chips which is worth 166 big blinds. He is on the same table as fellow Canadian Veerab Zakarian, Day 2 entry Ioannis Patsoukaris, and Olivier Busquet as the shortest stack at the table. Serda is trailed in in the chip counts is Brian Altman (923,000), Nathan Russler (914,000), Abraham Korotki (788,000), and Peter Vitantonio with 782,000 in chips.

With only 162 players getting paid, the bubble is expected to burst quite soon after the tournament has restarted. A min-cash is worth $5,886 and the Action Clock by Protection Poker will be used once the field is down to one table out of the money. Players will have 30 seconds to act on their hand. Players have been handed ten time-extension chips.

When the players return to the felt, they will continue with Level 17 which features a small blind of 3,000, big blind of 6,000, and a big blind ante of 6,000. Level duration will increase to 90 minutes per level and play will continue until there are 24 players left.

PokerNews will be there from the raise until the final hand has been dealt so follow along with the updates of the live reporting team.

Shuffle Up and Deal

Most of the players have managed to make it through the traffic problems and have taken their seats at the tables. The dealers have now been instructed to shuffle up and deal.

Sewnig Takes Reynolds Out

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Ari Engel raised to 12,000 from the early position and Daniel Sewnig shoved from the hijack for 166,000. Thomas Reynolds contemplated for a while on the button and then made the call for 115,000 or so. The blinds folded and so did Engel.

Thomas Reynolds: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Daniel Sewnig: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

The board ran out {q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{j-Spades} for Sewnig to hot the river for a full house to eliminate Reynolds.

At the same time, Jesse Bane and Viet Nguyen were eliminated on the other tables.

This means the field is down to 171 players and Table 20 has been broken up to balance out the other tables.

The Action Clock is now in play.

Muscarella Doubles Twice

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

First, Alex Muscarella doubled up from the late position for 73,000 with {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} against the {a-Spades}{j-Spades} of Grigoriy Shvarts in the cutoff when the board ran out {8-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} for Muscarella to hit the flop for the pair of eights and improve to two pair on the river.

The hand after, Milliard Hale raised to 15,000 from the early position and Muscarella shoved for 161,000 in the middle position. Action folded back to Hale who cut out calling chips, took some time, used a time extension, and then made the call.

Alex Muscarella: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Milliard Hale: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

The board ran out {3-Spades}{5-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Spades} for Musacarella to hold with the pair of queens to double up again.
