Welcome to Day 5 of the 2012 PokerStars.fr EPT Deauville. After five days (with two Day 1 flights), the starting field of 889 players is down to just 24 hopefuls, each with the goal of navigating his way to the final table. Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano is on top of the pack with 3,561,000. He began Day 4 near the bottom of the chip counts, but vaulted up the leader board in less than one level yesterday and never looked back.

Play is scheduled to continue at noon local time, about an hour from now, and will commence until the final table of eight players is reached. Keep it here at PokerNews throughout the day for all of the exciting action as it takes place.

The show is under way. We've got two tables, or 16 players to lose before we reach the final table of eight players. That's when play will pause until tomorrow. How long will that take? Who knows. Stayed tuned and we'll all find out together.

Teichert Doubles on First Hand

It didn't take long for the action to get going at the outer tables. On table three Nikolaus Teichert open shoved for 487,000 from under the gun. Artem Litvinov was in the big blind and tanked for three minutes before calling.

Litvinov: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Teichert: {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {3-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{10-Spades}.

The German paired his kicker and banged both fists down on the table in celebration.

King Kursevich

The two biggest stacks at the feature table have butted heads already, with chip leader Luca Pagano and Vadzim Kursevich going at it in the first hand here on Day 5.

The hand began with Pagano making it 51k from the button and Kursevich three-betting from the big blind, making it 157k. Luca called and the flop fell {j-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}.

Kursevich made a 155k continuation bet and Pagano flatted again. He fired another 275k bullet at the {6-Diamonds} turn, but could not shake Pagano.

Finally, after the {q-Hearts} river, Kursevich bet 430,000 and again Pagano called with {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}, but second pair was not good enough.

Kursevich held {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} and after adding the chips to his stack, he moved into the chip lead above Pagano.

Karim Lehoussine Eliminated in 24th Place (€23,000)

Denis Cheremisin opened to 50,000 in the hijack and Karim Lehoussine shoved from the button for 343,000. Action folded back to Cheremisin who called with {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. Lehoussine tabled {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} and appeared primed to double up.

However, the board came down {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{J-Clubs} as Cheremisin spiked a jack on the flop and river to eliminate Lehoussine.
