The final day of the 2015 PokerStars.com EPT Season 12 Malta Main Event started out with just six players, all competing for that first-place prize of over €600,000. The action was extremely fast paced, with players busting out almost every other orbit.

Before the first break the tournament was down to just four players and it was Sam Greenwood who was the first to go. He became the shortest stack after missing a flush draw with queen-three suited. He eventually got it in with king-jack suited against Niall Farrell's button raise. Farrell had ace-seven suited and the ace on the turn left Greenwood drawing dead. After already finishing sixth for €110,590 in the €25,000 High Roller earlier this week, he now had to settle for €125,660 for his sixth-place finish in the Main Event.

Rainer Kempe got eliminated eight hands later. Farrell, who had already played his fair share of hands at the final table by then, raised it up under the gun. Kempe looked down at queens in the cutoff and three-bet. Farrell four-bet shoved and Kempe called it off. Farrell had pocket aces and five community cards later Kempe hit the rail. After finishing fifth in the EPT 12 Barcelona Main Event for €320,400, Kempe, who became just the eighth person to make back-to-back EPT Main Event final tables, exited again fifth place, this time for €161,340.

It wasn't long after the first break was done that Giulio Spampinato made his exit in fourth place. The Italian qualifier, who's biggest cash in his poker career was $17,000 before this event, reshoved on Farrell's button open with ace-eight. Alen Bilic woke up with pocket tens in the big blind and made the call, which prompted Farrell to get out of the way. A board full of blanks followed and Spampinato collected €265,840 for his performance.

Two hands later, Jaroslaw Sikora got into a blind battle with Farrell. Sikora limp-shoved for 1.585 million with ace-ten from the small blind. Farrell again had a big hand and called with ace-jack. Another black board failed to improved either player and Sikora made his way to the payout desk to collect €265,840 for his third-place finish.

The two remaining players agreed to a deal within minutes after Sikora's bust out. Farrell, who held a slight chip lead, locked up €444,300, Bilic guaranteed himself €440,000, and the two agreed to play for the trophy and €90,000.

Despite the fact a deal was made, it was nowhere near over. There was still lots of money on the line, and the stacks were deep for both players. The two started out almost even, and the chip lead shifted a couple times before Farrell won a couple medium pots in a row and distanced himself from Bilic.

In Hand #98 of the final table, Farrell three-bet seven-six off suit and Bilic called with seven-eight suited. The flop came {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{A-Spades} and Farrell bet 400,000 into a 1.4 million pot. Bilic called and then called a 1.3 million bet on the turn, which paired his eight. The river was a blank and Farrell shoved all in on a total bluff. Bilic folded the best hand and was left short after that.

Two hands later it was all over as Bilic and Farrell clashed on a board of {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. Bilic had missed with his {8-Hearts}{2-Hearts} but bluffed all in for the size of the pot. Farrell called with bottom two pair and just like that the EPT Main Event final was over after exactly 100 hands! Farrell was the newest EPT champion and proud owner of €534,300, while Bilic had to settle for second, earning €440,000.

Alen Bilic - 2nd Place
Alen Bilic - 2nd Place

Hand #100: Bilic raised to 250,000 with the {8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, and Farrell called holding the {5-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. The {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop saw Farrell check-call a bet of 300,000, and the {5-Clubs} peeled off on the turn. Farrell checked his two pair, Bilic bet 650,000 with his open-ended straight and flush draws, and Farrell check-called to see the {Q-Spades} river.

Farrell checked once again, and Bilic, who missed, moved all in for his last 2.505 million. Farrell asked for a count, gave it some thought, and made the call to clinch the title. As part of the heads-up deal, Bilic will take home €440,000.

Hand #31: With the {q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}, Alen Bilic raised from the small blind and won the pot.

Hand #32: Jaroslaw Sikora limped from the small blind with the {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and Niall Farrell exercised his option from the big with a raise to 240,000 with the {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}. Sikora immediately moved all in for 1.585 million, and Farrell snap-called.

Sikora had major kicker issues, and the {8-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop didn't do anything for him. The {4-Spades} turn was a blank, and the {8-Spades} river wound up being the last card Sikora would see in the EPT12 Malta Main Event.

Hand #30: Niall Farrell made it 175,000 from the button with {9-Spades}{5-Clubs} and action was on the shorty in the small blind. Giulio Spampinato found {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and shoved for 675,000. Alen Bilic in the big blind woke up with {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and called rather quickly. Farrell laughed and instantly folded his hand.

Giulio Spampinato, surrounded by his friends and family, wished for an ace, but it wouldn't come. The board came {5-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and Spampinato was out in 4th place. His biggest score to date was winning the Big 55 online for $17,000, he improved on that here by quite a large margin, picking up €203,640.

The remaining 3 players are now guaranteed €265,840.

Rainer Kempe Eliminated in 5th Place (€161,340)

Level 28 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante
Rainer Kempe (R) - 5th Place
Rainer Kempe (R) - 5th Place

Hand #27: Farrell looked down at the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} under the gun and raised to 130,000. Rainer Kempe then picked up the {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} in the cutoff and three-bet to 300,000. Action folded back to Farrell and he paused for a few beats before moving all in. Not surprisingly, Kempe snap-called off.

Kempe, who became just the eighth player to make back-to-back EPT Main Event final tables (he finished fifth in the EPT12 Barcelona for €320,400), was in desperate need of a queen, but it never came as the board ran out {5-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{9-Spades}{4-Clubs}{6-Clubs}.

With that, Kempe finished fifth in back-to-back EPT Main Events, this time for €161,340.

Hand #19: Niall Farrell raised to 125,000 from the button with the {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Sam Greenwood looked down at the {k-Spades}{j-Spades} in the big blind. He thought for a bit and then moved all in for 760,000. It was 635,000 more for Farrell to call, and after pondering it for a but he did just that.

Greenwood was actually a slight 51% favorite given the cards that had been folded, but for all intents and purposes it was a flip. The {2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop was no help to Greenwood, and the {A-Spades} turn locked up the hand for Farrell. The meaningless {j-Hearts} was put out on the river, and Greenwood became the first man eliminated from the six-handed final table.

The Final Six Battle It Out at 2 p.m.

Can Alen Bilic use his chip lead to become the first EPT champion from Bosnia and Herzegovina
Can Alen Bilic use his chip lead to become the first EPT champion from Bosnia and Herzegovina

Day 5 of the 2015 PokerStars.com EPT Season 12 Malta Main Event saw the field of 16 get decimated to just 6. Those six players return at 1 pm this afternoon to battle it out for the €602,400 first place prize. Live coverage starts on an hour delay (2 pm) with hole cards up.

Alexander Ivarsson, the aggressive Swede who had been chip leader for quite some time, busted out in a set up of a spot with queens to Alen Bilic's ace king to go home in ninth place. With the official final table of 8 then reached, play continued till two more players busted out.

Two of the shorties busted out. Nabil Cardoso was first to go when he made his move holding queen-four in a blind battle. He walked into the king-ten of Jaroslaw Sikora in a blind battle and neither player improved. Daniel Dvoress exited in 7th place when he found himself short stacked and in the possession of ace-jack. Unfortunately for the Canadian high roller his neighbor Niall Farrell had ace-king and by the time the turn was out, Dvoress was already drawing dead.

Starting out as the massive chip leader is Alen Bilic, he brings 127 big blinds to the table this afternoon. Niall Farrell starts out in second place with 85 big blinds, Giulio Spampinato is the short stack going in with 19 big blinds. Rainer Kempe, who now has made back to back final tables at the EPT, needs to finish 2nd or 1st to best his EPT Barcelona cash (5th for €320,400). Here's how the final 6 stand:
