It's Day 2 of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2018 Main Event

PCA 2018 tournament room
PCA 2018 tournament room

The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2018 Main Event has moved on to Day 2 with 324 of the 571 entries still left on the felt. Registration does remain open until the start of play today which will see cards get in the air at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island at noon local time.

The top of the chip counts are dominated by Day 1b survivors with Norwegian Jean Ateba leading the way. Ateba brings forward a stack of 155,500, slightly ahead of American Michael Vela who just missed out on the honors bagging 153,600.

[Removed:240] (148,200), Timur Toktabayev (141,500), and Gianluca Speranza (141,200) round out the top five spots entering playing on Day 2. The top Day 1a survivor on the counts is Brazil’s Affif Prado who returns to action after a days rest with 137,500.

Lead by Jake Cody, PokerStars will be well represented on the felt today though most of them have a lot of work to do. Cody mustered a stack of 106,000 and currently holds the bragging rights over Andre Akkari (63,400), Barry Greenstein (62,700), Liv Boeree (44,000), and Kevin Martin (39,900).

A number of notable names and familiar faces are still in the hunt including Victor Ramdin (119,700), Christopher Kruk (112,400), Oleksii Khoroshenin (111,000), Jonathan Jaffe (100,400), Nick Petrangelo (100,000), Koray Aldemir (80,800), and Shawn Buchanan (77,600).

The plan for Day 2 is to play through Levels 9-13 which will be 90 minutes with a 20-minute break after each level. Once the day kicks off and registration closes, the official numbers will be tallied and the prize pool and payout structure will be released.

Day 2 will feature a cards-up live-stream kicking off about 30 minutes after play begins.

PokerNews will be here throughout the festival, bringing you all the news and live updates. Follow @pokernews on Twitter for updates and more. Also, follow PokerNews on Facebook and Instagram.

Rogers Off to a Great Start

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We arrived at the table to see John Rogers moving all-in on the turn of a {j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades} board. Rogers' all-in was for 31,000 and his heads-up opponent Stefan Peukert quickly made the call.

Rogers: {j-Spades}{8-Spades}
Peukert: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Rogers had out-flopped his opponent and after the {6-Hearts} completed the board, Rogers raked in big double up.

$30,000 Platinum Pass Awarded to Thai Ha in Blind Hand

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Five PokerStars Players No Limit Hold'em Championship (PSPC) Platinum Passes will be awarded throughout the 2018 PCA, including ones given to the eventual Main Event champion as well as Maria Konnikova, who was the PCA National champ.

In addition, all Main Event Day 2 participants had the chance today to win their own $30,000 Platinum Pass, which includes a $25,000 buy-in to the inaugural 2019 PSPC along with accommodation and expenses. Just before the start of Day 2, a single Main Event table was chosen at random. That table then played out a single hand of poker with the winner being awarded a Platinum Pass.

Table 34 was the table selected, and both players and media surrounded the table to observe the action. With Joe Stapleton on the mic, he instructed the dealer to deal cards facedown to all seven players. Actually, there were only six seat as Thai Ha had yet to take his seat. He was given a live hand nonetheless.

The dealer then put out the {8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop and then each player flipped one cards.

Seat 1Jahangir NazemianUnited States{2-Hearts}{X-}
Seat 2Mike LeahCanada{10-Spades}{X-}
Seat 3Jonathan WestUnited States{3-Diamonds}{X-}

Seat 5Mei SiuUnited States{a-Spades}{X-}
Seat 6Pavel IgnatovRussia{9-Clubs}{X-}
Seat 7Joseph DroryUnited States{6-Diamonds}{X-}

Poker pro Mike Leah was ahead with his pair of tens, but there were a lot of "ooohs and aaahs" when Ignatov revealed the {9-Clubs} for a straight flush draw.

The dealer then burned and turned the {4-Hearts}.

Nazemian was the only player that was willing to show his other card, which was the {K-Hearts}.

The dealer then completed the board with the {8-Diamonds} on the river, which meant Nazemian was officially out of the running. Leah was next to reveal and tabled the {A-Diamonds}, which failed to improve on his pair of tens. West was out after showing the {5-Spades}, and the it was on the still missing Ha.

He needed an eight and an eight only to take the lead, and the dealer tabled his other card — the {8-Spades}!

The spectators erupted in disbelief as the remaining players tabled their hands.

No one managed to overcome the trips of Ha, who at that very moment arrived at the table to discover he had just won a coveted $30,000 Platinum Pass.

Main Event players will have another opportunity to win a Platinum Pass when the tournament reaches the money. At that point, all remaining players will be dealt a single hand of poker. The winner from each table will be entered into a Phase II draw at the end of the event, which will award one pass.

Zhou Finds a Nice Double

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

It was unclear how the money went in but we caught the action as Jianguo Zhou and Khaled Nassief Gutierrez were tabling their hands. Zhou was the player at risk and had the best of it on a {k-Spades}{9-Hearts}{k-Hearts} flop.

Zhou: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Gutierrez: {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and Zhou's trip kings were best, earning him the double up.

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We just got a list of those players who jumped into action at the start of Day 2. They include Cary Katz and Maria Konnikova, who are fresh off PCA wins. They are joined by some still competition including Connor Drinan, Chance Kornuth, Byron Kaverman, and "Bahama" Bryn Kenney.

We're still waiting on official confirmation of numbers, but right now we have them at 178 players on Day 1A and 404 on 1B (that includes the late registrants) to bring the total field up to 582 players. Once we receive confirmation, we'll post official numbers with prize pool information.
