Ye Wang Takes Chip Lead into Day 2 of the 2018 PKC HK$200,000 Super High Roller

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Ye Wang
Ye Wang

With the first nine levels of the 2018 PKC HK$200,000 Super High Roller in the books, taking the chip lead into Day 2 is China’s Ye Wang with 710,000 in chips. The Chinese player was the fifth player to enter the field today and finished at the top of the chip counts.

Wang lost a chunk of his stack to Mikita Badziakouski when he ran into Badziakouski's kings, but clearly managed to build it back up. Wang played the High Roller and Main Event earlier this week but failed to make the money stages in those two tournaments. He will be looking to do better in this one.

Second in the chip counts is Kui Song Wu with 633,000. Wu was chipping up steadily at the start of the tournament but lost a decent amount of it to James Chen. He then went down in the chip count but climbed back up to above starting stack. He then clashed with Phanlert Sukonthachartnant in a huge hand where he managed to double up.

Badziakouski closes the podium with fewer chips than he had at his high point, bagging 484,000 in the end. Badziakouski himself was quick to dominate the tournament. He eliminated the High Roller Day 1 chip leader Duan Chao when he flopped a straight against Chao's set of sevens. It all went in on the turn and no full house came on the river for Chao as he was the first to be sent away from the Super High Roller tournament tables.

The only female player to enter the High Roller earlier this week, Wenling Gao, who finished sixth in that one, was back to try her luck in the Super High Roller. She was bleeding chips early on but managed to win some hands and also doubled up through Jacob Rasmussen to bag 454,000 for Day 2.

Shan Huang cashed for HK$52,000 in the Main Event for finishing in 27th place and jumped into this tournament immediately. Huang was probably the most talkative player of both tables, but he busted when he shoved his last 12 big blinds into the ace-jack of Wang while holding ace-seven. Huang smiled and quickly walked to the cashier to reenter and bagged 339,000 on his second bullet.

Other players through to Day 2 are Michael Addamo (328,000), William Fasano (311,000), Takashi Ogura (259,000), Sergio Aido (235,000), Phachara Wongwichit (144,000), and Phanlert Sukonthachartnant (99,000). Fasano finished in fourth place and Ogura as the runner-up in the High Roller three days ago so they will both be gunning for that first place this time.

Unfortunately, not everyone was that lucky. James Chen was taken out by Addamo when his flopped top pair couldn’t win against the flush Addamo hit on the river. Gui Fei Zhang qualified last night in the satellite and started off well, but he fell after several hurdles. He doubled Addamo up after a failed bluff and then got eliminated by Sukonthachartnant in a five-bet pot which also included Rasmussen.

Rasmussen got short when he doubled up Gao and then lost whatever he managed to build up again when Sukonchartnant called his shove with ace-king. Rasmussen’s king-jack didn’t get there and he was the last player to hit the rail for the day. With nine levels in the books, the eleven remaining players bagged and tagged their chips for the next day.

Day 2 will start at 2 p.m. local time on Tuesday, September 25, in Level 10 which features a small blind of 4,000, big blind of 8,000, and a running ante of 1,000. Registration will remain open for the first two levels and the 10-minute break that follows it. Once that period closes around 3:50 p.m., the final prize pool details will be announced.

Make sure to come back tomorrow to follow the updates as the PokerNews live reporting team will be providing updates until the Super High Roller Champion has been crowned.

The board read {9-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{J-Spades}{6-Spades} with around 100,000 in the pot. Takashi Ogura had bet 60,000 from the big blind and Ye wang was sitting on the button, trying to figure out what to do. He looked at the board and decided to make the call.

Ogura sighed and turned over {a-Spades}{5-Clubs}, Wang couldn't see if Ogura had the flush or not and the table confirmed Ogura had just ace-high. Wang flipped over {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for the turned pair of jacks which was enough to take the pot down.

Rasmussen Fails to Double Up

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Jacob Rasmussen
Jacob Rasmussen

Contrary to what Phanlert Sukonthachartnant has managed to do when he became short, Jacob Rasmussen was eliminated just when the break started.

With eleven seconds to go on the tournament clock, the last hand on his table was being dealt. Rasmussen shoved for 58,000 in total from under the gun and was called by Sukonthachartnant in the small blind. Wenling Gao sighed and reluctantly folded her big blind.

They both opened one card first which was a king for both of them. They both laughed and then revealed their second cards:

Jacob Rasmussen: {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}
Phanlert Sukonthachartnant: {K-Spades}{A-Clubs}

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} to not provide any help to Rasmussen as he was eliminated for now. The late registration and reentry period remains open until the start of Level 12 tomorrow so he might be back later today or tomorrow.

Wu Wins it All

Level 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Kui Song Wu
Kui Song Wu

Kui Song Wu raised to 11,000 from under the gun. Phanlert Sukonthachartnant called on the button. So did Wenling Gao in the small blind. Jacob Rasmussen three-bet to 44,000 in the big blind and the rest all called.

The flop came {4-Spades}{j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}, Gao checked, Rasmussen continued with a bet of 40,000. Qu called but Sukonthachartnant shoved. Gao quickly folded, Rasmussen did the same. Wu dived deep into the tank. After about four minutes, Wu asked for a count and the dealer confirmed that Sukonthachartnant had 254,000 in front of him after the dealer had already pulled the original 40,000 bet into the pot. Wu looked pained, collected all his big value chips into his hands and got up from his chair. He sighed and put the chips over the line.

"Set!" somebody on the rail said.

Kui Song Wu: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}
Phanlert Sukonthachartnant: {3-Spades}{3-Hearts}

They both had a pair but Wu was ahead with his aces. He just needed to avoid a three and Sukonthachartnant, on the other hand, was hoping the three would come on the turn or river.

The rest of the board was completed with the {J-Spades} on the turn and the {4-Hearts} on the river.

The dealer counted out Wu's stack and determined Wu had 218,000 in total, leaving Sukonthachartnant behind with 36,000.

Huang Can't Keep Hanging On

Level 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Shan Huang
Shan Huang

Shan Huang seems to be the one player enjoying this tournament the most. If you were to be in the tournament room right now, you would be able to hear him chatting away with his tablemates, playing a hand here and there, and lots of smiles and laughter coming from him. Even though he seemingly was having fun, his chip stack was slowly dwindling down.

In fact, Huang shoved all in for 62,500 from the cutoff. Ye Wang was sitting on his left and looked how much it was in total. Wang called.

"Uh oh!" Mikita Badziakouski commented while folding his small blind.

Takashi Ogura quietly folded his big blind.

Shan Huang: {A-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Ye Wang: {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}

The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} for Wang's higher kicker to come into play to send Huang back to the cashier to reenter.

Gao Doubles Through Rasmussen

Level 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Wenling Gao
Wenling Gao

Wenling Gao finished in sixth place in the High Roller and is looking to do even better in the Super High Roller. Gao just doubled up through Jacob Rasmussen and was kind enough to relate what had happened.

Gao raised to 9,000 with {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and was called by Rasmussen who is sitting on her direct left.

The flop came {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs}, Gao check-called the 9,000 bet of Rasmussen.

The turn was the {J-Spades}, now Gao check-called the 24,000 continuation-bet of Rasmussen.

The river completed the board with the {5-Spades}, Gao checked again. Rasmussen now put her all-in and she called for the 103,000 she had behind. The pocket nines were good enough to double up.

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Gui Fei Zhang
Gui Fei Zhang

Jacob Rasmussen raised to 9,000 from under the gun and was called by Gui Fei Zhang in the cutoff. Phanlert Sukonthachartnant three-bet to 55,000. Rasmussen called but Zhang decided to four-bet shove for around 130,000 in total. Sukonthachartnant also shoved with the bigger stack and Rasmussen folded.

Gui Fei Zhang: {Q-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Phanlert Sukonthachartnant: {7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

The board ran out {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{7-Spades}{3-Spades}{10-Spades} to give Sukonthachartnant two pair on the flop to take the satellite winner, Zhang, out of the running for today.

To balance the tables out, Wenling Gao has been moved to this table.

Chen Eliminated by Addamo

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
James Chen
James Chen

Gui Fei Zhang raised to 7,000 from the cutoff and was called by Michael Addamo on the button and James Chen in the big blind.

They all checked through the {q-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} on the flop to the {J-Clubs} on the turn. Chen and Zhang both checked. Addamo lead out for 9,000. Chen called. Zhang raised to 40,000 and now Addamo called. James Chen decided to shove for 93,000 in total. Zhang tanked for a while but opted to fold. Addamo was now up for the decision. He confirmed the amount again and then called.

James Chen: {Q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Michael Addamo: {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

Chen had top pair with the queens and Addamo had a flush draw and gutshot straight draw.

The {a-Hearts} on the river completed the board to give Addamo the flush he needed to eliminate Chen from the tournament.

Addamo Makes Zhang Fold

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Michael Addamo
Michael Addamo

Gui Fei Zhang had managed to add some chips back to his stack and decided to raise to 6,500 from the cutoff. Michael Addamo three-bet to 20,000 on the button. The blinds folded and Zhang called.

The dealer spread out {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} on the flop and Zhang checked instantly. Addamo silently put in a bet of 11,000 which Zhang called.

The turn was the {6-Spades}, Zhang checked again. Addamo glimpsed at Zhang and put in another bet but now for 25,000. Zhang counted out his stack and had about 148,000 left. He cut out calling chips and riffled them for a bit and then threw them into the pot for the call.

The river completed the board with the {2-Diamonds} and Zhang checked for the last time. Addamo took a few seconds before putting in a stack of red 10,000-value chips putting Zhang all-in. Zhang folded.

James Chen
James Chen

James Chen raised to 5,000 from under the gun and Kui Song Wu three-bet to 16,000 from the cutoff. The rest folded and Chen called.

The flop brought them the {8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, Chen check-raised the 20,000 bet of Wu to 55,000. Wu called.

The turn came with the {3-Clubs}, Chen checked again. Wu now bet 50,000. Chen shoved for 107,800 in total and Wu tanked. After about three minutes, Wu decided to give the hand up for Chen to rake in the pot.

In the meanwhile, on the other table, the board read {7-Clubs}{q-Spades}{7-Spades}{j-Hearts} and Mikita Badziakouski had shoved in the small blind and Phachara Wongwichit was considering his options. In the end, Wongwichit decided to fold so Badziakouski could add even more chips to his already enormous stack.
