Justin Rustvold Bags Chip Lead for Day 1b as 38 Players Advance

Another full day of action has played to its conclusion at the 2021 Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Grand Falls Casino $360 Regional Event. The second of three flights drew 261 entries to bring the two-day total thus far to 449 and with that number, the $50K GTD has already been more than doubled with one flight remaining.

Of those 261 entries, 38 players remained when chips went into bags and Justin Rustvold found himself atop the counts with a stack of 404,000. He was the only player above 400,000, but found four players hot on his heels with Taylor Howard (388,000), Mark Fink (376,000), Josh Nieman (350,000), and Curtis Vierstraete (342,000) rounding out the top five.

Much like Day 1a, the final level of the night saw an onslaught of casualties, with players such as Bryan Skreens and Bob Van Syckle among those to be eliminated before play concluded for the night with chips flying all across the five remaining tables in the final level of play that led to a lot of players riding roller coasters with their stack sizes before becoming official for the evening.

Several other familiar players will also be joining the aforementioned five. Jeff Grimes (228,000), David Hengen (193,000), Cy Church (137,000) and Alex Winter (79,000) are just a few more of the players to add their names to the Day 2 roster along with the 23 to have already advanced from Day 1a.

Among those not as lucky at the felt included Matt Alexander, Jonathan Kim, Bridgette Field, 2018 champ Ryan Skluzak, and defending champ Swadeep Mishra, with at least a few if not all of them likely to be seen back in action for the final flight.

Vigil Flops a Set and Sends Two Players Packing

Mark Larson opened for 16,000 from early position, the player seated next to him three-bet all in for 30,000 and Lawrence Vigil called from late position.

Action folded back around to Mark Larson who came over the top for roughly 60,000 and Vigil called putting both players at risk.

Each player woke up with premium hands but it was Vigil who took the lead after a nine appeared in the window and the runout secured him the double elimination.

Riley Finds a Third Snowman to Eliminate Field

Bridgette Field open-jammed from early position and action folded around to Lorri Riley who called from the big blind.

Field was racing for her tournament life and pulled ahead after the flop paired her jack.

The turn made things interesting as Riley picked up more outs with a gutshot straight draw, but it was the river that secured the pot for her and eliminated Filed from the tournament.

Hengen Catches a Lucky Ace

David Hengen opened for 10,000 from late position and found two callers bringing about the flop.

Action was checked to Henegen who continued for 20,000 and the cutoff player raised all in for roughly 65,000. The big blind player folded while Henegen called and the two players tabled their hands.

Henegen was out-flopped by his opponent and the turn didn't change a thing. Luckily for Henegen, his good karma came on the river when the fell and secured him the pot.

Winter Attracts the Ladies

Alex Winter opened for 4,500 and the player seated to his left three-bet to 9,000. Action on the table folded back around to Winter who four-bet shoved and his opponent called off their 20,000 stack.

Winter was behind looking to pair his ace but it was the ladies that fell on the flop.

The turn didn't change a thing and the river secured Winter the pot.

Action on the table folded around to Matt Alexander who got his short stack in the middle from the cutoff and Dale Berger called from the small blind.

Alexander was behind holding live cards but didn't find any help on the flop.

The turn wasn't bad for Alexander as it gave him straight and flush draws with possible chop outs, but the river paired the board ending his tournament.

Svoboda Gets Paid

A player from early position raised to 2,000 and found two callers which included Ryan Svoboda from late position.

The flop was checked to the hijack player who fired out 2,500 and only Svoboda called. The turn was checked by both players to the river and a series of raises saw Svoboda get his 25,000 stack in the middle.

The hijack player called and rolled over for top two-pair but it was no good as Svoboda held to win the pot with a full house.

Two-Pair Good for 2018 Grand Falls Regional Champ

Ryan Skluzak raised to 1,100 from middle position and was called by both the blinds.

The flop was checked to the big blind player who fired out 500 and only Skluzak called to see the turn.

The big blind player led out for 500, then called the 2,700 raise from Skluzak and the completed the board on the river.

The big blind player check-called Skluzak's 4,200 bet only for fold after the 2018 Grand Falls Regional Champ showed for two-pair.

Welcome to Day 1b of the MSPT Grand Falls $360 Regional Event

The second flight of the $360 MSPT Grand Falls Casino Regional Event is set to get underway at 5 p.m. local time.

Day 1a drew 188 entries and play ended with 23 players finding a bag for Sunday's Day 2. Abraham Garang bagged the chip lead of the first flight with an impressive stack of 629,000. Today, another group of players will try to challenge that mark.

This two-day event features a $50,000 guarantee in the prize pool and a starting stack of 25,000. Levels will be of 30 minutes and there will be a 10-minute break every four levels.

Late registration and re-entries will remain available until the start of Level 13. Players are allowed one re-entry per flight and any player who advances can only enter a subsequent flight if they forfeit their stack.

Day 1b will play through 15 levels and survivors of all three flights will combine for Day 2 on March 21 at noon local time.
