Day 2 Completed

Abraham Korotki Leads Field After Day 2

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Abraham Korotki
Abraham Korotki

We are in the money at the 2014 Borgata Spring Poker Open Championship and 45 players will return at noon later today aiming to make it even further with all eyes on the $256,508 first place prize. The chip leader heading into Day 3 is Abraham Korotki who eliminated one of the Day 1 chip leaders, well known professional poker player Paul Volpe, earlier in the day and never looked back on the way to building the largest stack in the field with 830,000 in chips.

Sitting in 2nd, only 8,000 behind Korotki with 822,000, is Jake Toole who won a straight-vs-straight-vs-straight hand to start his ascent to the top. Rounding out the top 3 is the Day 1 chip leader, Alan Wentz, who finished with 730,500 in chips.

Other notables that made the money and will return later today include Paul Spitzberg (506,000), Andy Spears (269,500), Matt Brady (260,000), Jeff Madsen (219,500), Dave Stefanski (191,500), Roland Israelashvili (161,500), Jeff Papola (93,500), Taylor Von Kriegenbergh (91,500), Emad Alabsi (65,000), Valerie Novak (40,000), and David Tuthill (350,500). Tuthill took out Mike Leah in a cooler of a hand when he picked up Aces to Leah's Kings.

There were some great players that were unable to make the money. Names like Brett Richey, Andy Frankenberger, Tyler Patterson, Cornel Cimpan, Christian Harder, Keven Stammen, Eric Baldwin, Brock Parker, Amnon Filippi, Brian Lemke, Darren Elias, Adam Friedman, and Matt Affleck would all be sent packing before the money bubble burst.

When play resumes, they will play until the final 27 is reached with the possibility of playing longer if tournament staff feels it is warranted. PokerNews will be back here from the start to bring you all the exciting flops, turns, and rivers.

Mazen Nesheiwat Bubbles the Borgata Spring Poker Open Championship Event

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Mazen Nesheiwat
Mazen Nesheiwat

Mazen Nesheiwat open-shoved for 78,500 from under the gun, William Bariban, after doubling through Abraham Korotki with pocket jacks on a king-high board, re-shoved, and the rest of the players folded.

Nesheiwat: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Bariban: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

The {j-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop gave Nesheiwat four extra outs to make Broadway, and the {8-Diamonds} on the turn offered four more outs to chop, but the {5-Hearts} bricked off on the river, and Nesheiwat was eliminated.

Play has concluded with 50 minutes and 56 seconds remaining in Level 17, and the remaining 45 players are bagging and tagging.

Emad Alabsi Doubles Up

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

The shortest of the short stacks Emad Alabsi (who won the PLO tournament last night) moved all in over the top of Dave Stefanski's 11,500 opener and was called by Stefanski who had {A-}{3-}. Alabsi was in good shape with {A-}{J-} and the board would run safe to give him the double up. We are still hand for hand.

Lee Busts

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Sungwon Lee moved all in for less than a big blind (3,500) in middle position, and James Campbell raised to 15,000 out of the small blind. Jewook Oh folded {q-}{2-} from the big blind.

Lee: {k-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Campbell: {a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}

The flop was all clubs - {5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{8-Clubs} - giving Lee nine extra outs. The {a-Diamonds} on the turn was not one of them, and it took away six of Lee's outs.

The river was black, but the {4-Spades} didn't help Lee, and he was eliminated two spots away from the money.

We are now on the exact money bubble and are playing hand-for-hand.

Toole Time

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

With the board showing {8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{J-Spades}{Q-Hearts} and 80,000 in the pot, Taylor Von Kriegenbergh checked to Jake Toole who made a pot sized bet of 80,000. Toole tanked well into the break and after approximately five minutes made the call.

Toole turned over {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for the nut flush and Von Kriegenbergh grimaced and told Toole "nice hand... nice hand buddy."
