Luke Graham Wins the 2012-2013 WSOP Circuit Harrah's New Orleans Main Event ($228,600)

After four days of play, the 2012-13 World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah’s New Orleans Main Event came to an end on Monday as Luke Graham emerged victorious over a 762-player field to capture a $228,600 first-place prize and a seat into the National Championship.

The first elimination of the day occurred about 40 minutes into play in Level 28 (15,000/30,000/5,000) when Joe Hebert managed to two-out WSOP bracelet winner Robert Cheung. After that Corrie Wunstel was sent packing in tenth place followed by Pavan Bhatia in ninth.

In the first hand back from a break, action folded to Bhatia in the small blind and he opted to limp. Daniel Weinman exercised his option in the big with a raise to 175,000, and then snap-called when Bhatia moved all in for one million.

Bhatia: {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}
Weinman: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}

It was a race, and according to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Bhatia had a 50.33% chance of winning the hand while Weinman wasn't far behind at 49.12%. The flop ultimately swung the hand when it came down {j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{k-Hearts} to pair Weinman's king, making him an 86.67% favorite. The {2-Spades} turn further increased that to 95.45%, which meant Bhatia needed a three on the river to stay alive. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {A-Spades}, sending Bhatia to the rail in ninth place for $21,591.

From there the eliminations continued to mount including those of Ben Mintz in eighth place; two-time ring winner Tripp Kirk* in seventh; WSOP bracelet winner Dan Schmiech in sixth; and Rogen Chhabra, who fell in fifth place for $58,487,

*Kirk’s final table appearance was due in part to Earl Merritt folding pocket aces preflop on the money bubble after Kirk had three-bet jammed. Had Merritt called, Kirk would likely have missed out on any money at all.

Fourhanded play was an extended affair lasting nearly three hours before Weinman fell to Hebert, who had started on a bit of a heater. Graham, who began the day second-to-last in chips, really didn't make any waves until three-handed play when he sent Kasra Khodayarkhani to the rail. That gave him a decent stack and set up a heads-up match between Hebert and Graham, with the two were essentially even. In Level 36 (80,000/160,000/20,000), two hands, one large and one small, determined the tournament. Of course you can read about both of those simply by scrolling down.

Joseph Hebert Eliminated in 2nd Place ($140,932)

Level 36 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante
Joseph Hebert - 2nd Place
Joseph Hebert - 2nd Place

Two hands, one large and one small, just went down that saw Luke Graham clinch the Harrah's New Orleans title.

In the first, Joseph Hebert opened for 360,000 and Graham called, leading to a {2-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop. Graham checked, Hebert bet 300,000 and Graham woke up with a check-raise to 600,000. Not to be outdone, Hebert three-bet to 1.1 million and Graham snap-called.

Graham then check-called a bet of 1.25 million on the {3-Spades} turn before checking the {3-Hearts} river. Hebert wasted little time in moving all in and Graham, who had 4.695 million behind, shot back in his chair. As the seconds ticked off the tournament clock and minutes passed, Graham took a swig of his water and asked, "Pocket tens?"

Hebert sat motionless and then seemingly out of nowhere Graham spiked in a call. Hebert's face dropped and he sheepishly tabled the {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. In a fit of excitement Graham then revealed the winning {8-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}.

"I don't know how you call that," said a shocked Hebert, who was left with just 500,000. On the very next hand, Hebert committed it with the {10-Spades}{6-Hearts} and Graham called holding the {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{2-Spades} and Hebert had to settle for a runner-up finish.

Kasra Khodayarkhani Eliminated in 3rd Place ($103,899)

Level 35 : 70,000/140,000, 20,000 ante
Kasra Khodayarkhani - 3rd Place
Kasra Khodayarkhani - 3rd Place

Luke Graham raised to 300,000 on the button, Kasra Khodayarkhani moved all in for 2.825 million in the small blind, and Graham tank-called.

Graham: {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Khodayarkhani: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Khodayarkhani was drawing very slim when the flop fell {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, and he was drawing dead when the {5-Hearts} turned. A meaningless {8-Diamonds} completed the board, and Khodayarkhani was eliminated in third place.

Daniel Weinman Eliminated in 4th Place ($77,438)

Level 34 : 60,000/120,000, 30,000 ante
Daniel Weinman - 4th Place
Daniel Weinman - 4th Place

Jospeh Hebert opened for 250,000 from the cutoff and was met by an all-in three-bet to 1.86 million by Daniel Weinman.

"How much is it?" Hebert asked before calling with the {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}. Weinman then tabled the {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Weinman was behind but was drawing to two live cards.

The {j-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop didn't provide much help, but Weinman stayed positive. "I can't be drawing dead on the turn," he pointed out.

While that was true, the {8-Clubs} turn didn't give him a lot of hope. In order to survive Weinman would need either a king or a ten on the river. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {8-Diamonds}, the last card Weinman would see. The runner-up in the Harrah's Cherokee Main Event took home $77,438 for his fourth-place finish.

Two Million-Chip Pot for Weinman

Level 33 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Daniel Weinman
Daniel Weinman

Daniel Weinman opened to 250,000 out of the small blind, Kasra Khodayarkhani defended, and the flop fell {5-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. Weinman led out for 275,000, Khodayarkhani called, and both players checked after the {4-Spades} turned.

The {10-Diamonds} completed the board, and Weinman slid forward 600,000. Khodayarkhani splashed a few chips forward, signaling a call, and Weinman turned over {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} for a pair of aces.

Khodayarkhani mucked, and Weinman was shipped the two million-chip pot.

Khodayarkhani Wins a Near Five Million-Chip Flip

Level 33 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Kasra Khodayarkhani
Kasra Khodayarkhani

Kasra Khodayarkhani raised to 200,000 from under the gun, Daniel Weinman three-bet to what looked like 500,000 in the big blind, and Khodayarkhani moved all in for 2.39 million. Weinman instantly called.

Khodayarkhani: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Weinman: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Nearly five million chips were in the middle, and if Weinman were to win the flip, he would have more than two-thirds of the chips in play.

"All-diamond flop," he requested.

He was close, because the {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} flop had two diamonds. Weinman called for no cards on the turn, but perhaps he should have because the {q-Spades} hit the felt, giving Khodayarkhani a leading pair of queens.

Just for kicks and giggles, Khodayarkhani improved to two pair when the {a-Clubs} completed the board, and he doubled to 4.85 million chips. Weinman fell to 4.71 million.

Rogen Chhabra Eliminated in 5th Place ($58,487)

Level 32 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Rogen Chhabra - 5th Place
Rogen Chhabra - 5th Place

In the last hand of Level 32, Daniel Weinman opened for 160,000 under the gun and received a call from Rogen Chhabra on the button. Joseph Hebert then three-bet to 440,000 from the small blind, both his opponents called and three players watched the flop come down {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades}.

Two checks put action on Chhabra and he promptly shoved all in for 1.825 million. Hebert folded while Weinman made the call.

Chhabra: {K-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Weinman: {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}

Chhabra was behind and looking for a diamond, but wouldn't find one as the {A-Clubs} blanked on the turn followed by the {5-Spades} on the river. Chhabra took home $58,487 for his fifth-place finish while Weinman chipped up to 7 million.

"You Look Like You're in a Calling Stance"

Daniel Weinman doubles again
Daniel Weinman doubles again

Rogen Chhabra opened to 180,000 from under the gun, and Daniel Weinman moved all in for two million even in the small blind. Kasra Khodayarkhani surrendered his big blind, and Chhabra promptly stood up.

"You look like you're in a calling stance," Weinman told him.

"Yeah," Chhabra answered. "I call."

Weinman turned over {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} then sunk down into his seat. Chhabra tabled {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}, and we were off to the races.

The flop fell {3-Clubs}{q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, giving Weinman a leading pair of queens, and he gave a two-handed fist pump will still slouched in his seat.

"Good hand," Chhabra told him, cutting out stacks of blue T25,000 chips.

Chhabra could still send Weinman packing with a ten on the turn or river, but the {6-Hearts} and the {j-Clubs} were both bricks. Weinman doubled to around 4.2 million chips, while Chhabra plummeted down to 1.685 million.

Dan Schmiech - 6th Place
Dan Schmiech - 6th Place

Talk about Déjà vu! Just minutes after kings lost to Big Slick it has happened again.

It happened when Luke Graham moved all in under the gun for roughly 1.5 million and Dan Schmiech called off for 1.255 million in the small blind.

Schmiech: {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}
Graham: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

It was the exact same situation we'd just saw, and the outcome would be the same as the {2-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop delivered an ace. Schmiech, who is a World Series of Poker bracelet winner from 2005, immediately stood and prepared to make his exit, which he did after the {8-Clubs} turn and {10-Clubs} river failed to deliver the case king.

Weinman Planks, Hits an Ace, and Doubles

Level 32 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Daniel Weinman doubles through Kasra Khodayarkhani
Daniel Weinman doubles through Kasra Khodayarkhani

The action folded to Daniel Weinman, who moved all in for 865,000 out of the small blind. Kasra Khodayarkhani immediately called in the big blind, turning over {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. Weinman showed {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}.

"I'm going to plank!" Weinman said, running down the steps of the stage.

Earlier, Joseph Hebert suggested that Weinman should plank the next time he was all in, and true enough, the Atlantean laid face first on a table off of the stage.

Meanwhile, at the final table, the dealer rapped the table, burned a card, then dealt three community cards face down. Right in the window of the flop was the {a-Diamonds}, followed by the {5-Diamonds} and the {9-Clubs}. When the tournament director announced that there was an ace on the flop, Weinman didn't look up, rather he just gave a thumbs up from the plank position.

Khodayarkhani needed the only remaining king in the deck to record the knockout, but the turn and river bricked {7-Hearts}, {3-Hearts} respectfully. Weinman gleefully returned to the stage, where he pulled in the 1.7 million-chip pot. Khodayarkhani was knocked down to around 1.64 million.
