Welcome back for the final day of Event #34, the latest installment in a series of $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em events.
When play wrapped up at 3:00am last night, 21 players still had chips in front of them. Those remaining players are back today for the run to the final table and the bracelet.
The chip bags are out on the tables, and the players have just begun to trickle into their seats. After the administrative loose ends are tied up, we'll be all set to go -- shooting for an on-time start at 1:00pm.
We'll be right back when the cards are in the air.
In the second hand of play, the table folded around to James Mackey in the small blind who pushed all in. Young Phan, short-stacked at about 200,000 in the big blind, folded face up. "Five-high," he said.
On the next hand, the table again folded to Mackey on the button, and he raised to 40,000. Phan then announced he was all in from the small blind, but Mackey let it go before Phan's chips could be counted.
Martin Jacobson opened with a raise to 38,000. Next door, Marc Whitford moved all in. It took quite a while to count down his stack, as the shaky-handed dealer was having difficulty stacking down the chips. In the end, it looked like 99,000 more to call, and Jacobson did just that, putting Whitford at risk.
Showdown
Jacobson:
Whitford:
The flop was safe for the all-in player, coming . A dangerous landed on the turn though, and the that spiked the river made Jacobson the winning flush. Whitford shook his opponent's hand, wished the table luck, and departed as the first elimination on Day 3.
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier raisd to 38,000 from middle position, and Joseph Cada reraised to 120,000 from the button. It folded back to ElkY, who after 20 seconds pushed the rest of his stack in. After the chips were counted down, it would be another 213,000 for Cada to call.
Finally Cada decided to call. Grospellier turned over , and Cada . The flop was . One more spade, and Grospellier's day was done. The turn was the , and ElkY was still safe. The river was the , and Grospellier doubles up to 675,000. Cada slips back to 227,000.
After a flop of , Eric DeFontes announced he was all in, and Matt Heiligenthaler quickly called. DeFontes turned over , and Heiligenthaler's head dropped a bit as he showed .
The turn was the and the river , and Heilingenthaler is out in 20th. DeFontes catapults up to about 775,000.
From middle position, James Taylor came in with a raise to 40,000. Action passed to the button where Robert Mason moved all in for 217,000 total. Taylor asked for a full count before making the call.
Showdown

Mason:
The board ran to give Mason the winning kings up. He has notched a big double up to 450,000, dropping Taylor all the way back to 270,000.
