Razz Time! Bring It On . . . errr . . . In!

It's so shiny . . . who wouldn't want one!
It's so shiny . . . who wouldn't want one!

After two days of bring-ins, missed draws and wheels, we are finally down to the final day of Event #40: $2,500 Seven Card Razz!

365 players started this event, but now only fifteen players remain with Melville Lewis leading the field with an amassed 504,000 in chips as Mikko Pispala (458,000), Stuart Rutter (295,000) and Maxwell Troy (258,000) the closest in contention.

Chris Bjorin (163,000) is one you can't rule out as this is his fifty-fifth all time WSOP cash and also fifth of the series. Fresh off his recent victory in Event #15, Frank Kassela (144,000) will be looking to continue his recent strong showing in the stud games, but will be very wary of Jennifer Harman (108,000) who also finished third in the same event.

Throw in the unstoppable Vladimir Shchemelev (81,000) and it is truly anyone's tournament to win with the coveted bracelet, title of Event #40 champion and $214,085 first prize up for grabs.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will again be here at 3:30 pm PST providing continuous live updates as we play down from fifteen to one, so settle in, grab a coffee and don't even think about switching screens as we look to crown the Event #40 champion in just a number of hours!

Kassela Early Victory

Chris Bjorin completed for 8,000 only to have Frank Kassela two-bet to 16,000. Bjorin made the call before calling down a bet from Kassela on each street until seventh street was checked through.

Bjorin: (X)(X) / {6-}{8-}{K-}{Q-} / (X)
Kassela: (X)(X) / {3-}{2-}{J-}{Q-} / (X)

Kassela tabled his hole cards of {9-}{5-}{4-} and Bjorin mucked to see Kassela take the first pot of day three.

If the Best Hand Wins, Cobb Doubles

Chris Bjorin brought it in with the {K-Spades} and Dee Tiller completed showing the {2-Clubs}. Arthur Cobb made it three bets with {6-Hearts} and the short stack, and Tiller made the call.

Tiller: (X)(X)/{2-} {8-} {7-} {7-}/(X)
Cobb: (X)(X)/{6-} {A-} {8-} {7-}/(X)

On fourth street, Cobb bet out with the lead, and Tiller said, "You know, I think you paired that ace," and raised to two bets. Cobb popped it right back, and he leaned over his shoulder and said, "Here we go, I'm gonna be all in," to nobody in particular.

On fifth street, Cobb check-called a bet to leave himself 20,000 behind, and Tiller fired a bet in the dark (out of turn) on sixth. Cobb called down to 4,000, and they went ahead and put the rest in as seventh street came out.

Tiller: {A-} {4-}/{2-} {8-} {7-} {7-}/(X)
Cobb: {2-} {3-}/{6-} {A-} {8-} {7-}/(X)

Tiller needed to catch a card to earn the knockout, but the {Q-} meant Cobb was sticking around. He flipped over the {J-} looking frustrated, though, and Tiller said, "Boom, baby!" and fist pumped the dealer.

"Uhhh, you know you didn't win the pot, right?" someone at the table said, and the dealer began pushing the chips toward Cobb. Tiller said he realized that, but then, with the cards all scrambled and Tiller's hand mucked, the table broke into a little debate about which hand was best.

"Wait, wait, I had a eight-seven-four!" Tiller said, and a couple of the other players mumbled that the wrong hand was killed. Cobb's hand was still face-up though, and everyone could read the winning seventy-six for themselves. Apologies all around, including to the dealer, and we're on to the next hand, Cobb with twice as many chips as the hand before.

Troy Takes One From Lewis

Maxwell Troy completed to 8,000 and Melville Lewis bumped it to 16,000 with Troy making the call.

Lewis led out on fourth and fifth street with Troy calling him down, until he took the lead on sixth and seventh with Lewis eventually folding to the seventh street bet of 16,000 with both player's boards reading as follows:

Troy: (X)(X) / {8-}{K-}{A-}{7-} / (X)
Lewis: (X)(X) / {5-}{J-}{7-}{7-} / (X)

As Lewis slipped to 450,000, Troy climbed to 265,000 in chips

Nick Helm Eliminated in 15th Place ($7,857)

Nick Helm - 15th place
Nick Helm - 15th place

Nick Helm completed and Melville Lewis two-bet to 16,000 with Helm making the call.

Lewis lead the betting on every street with Helm calling him down until raising to 32,000 on seventh. Lewis responded with a three-bet to 48,000 and Helm just called.

Lewis: (X)(X) / {5-}{J-}{6-}{8-} / (X)
Helm: (X)(X) / {2-}{2-}{7-}{7-} / (X)

Helm tabled his hole cards of {A-}{6-}{4-} for a seven-six low, but it would be Lewis' {A-}{4-}{3-} in the hole to see him make a six-five low to take the pot and cripple Helm.

The following hand Helm found himself all in on fourth street against Maxwell Troy with both player's boards running out as follows:

Troy: {8-}{4-} / {3-}{9-}{Q-}{10-} / {Q-}
Helm: {6-}{5-} / {3-}{J-}{7-}{7-} / {5-}

With Helm unable to best Troy's ten-nine low, he hit the rail in 15th place for a $7,857 payday.

William Wood Eliminated in 14th Place ($7,857)

William Wood - 14th place
William Wood - 14th place

Arthur Cobb had the bring-in, and Maxwell Troy completed with the {9-}. William Wood called showing the {5-}, and the two men were heads up the rest of the way.

Troy: (X)(X)/{9-} {9-} {8-} {5-}/(X)
Wood: (X)(X)/{5-} {9-} {K-} {3-}/(X)

On fourth street, Wood bet his lead, and Troy looked pained as he eventually made the call with an open pair. Wood checked to him on fifth though, and Troy bet. Wood called that one, and another 16,000 on sixth street, leaving himself just 20,000 chips. When Troy fired again on seventh street, Wood squeezed his {A-} {10-} {Q-} and decided a fold was in order.

A couple hands later, Wood was relieved of his final few thousand chips at the hands of Vladimir Shchemelev. Wood is out in 14th place, taking home almost $8,000.
