And On the Third Day...

Half of the Day 1 flights are already out of the way, but we figure we've only seen about a third of the runners that this Main Event has to offer.
A total of 1,489 players turned up yesterday for Day 1b to put the total field at an impressive 2,614 and counting. That's up about 30% over 2009's start, and projecting last year's numbers out gives us a hypothetical field of 7,119 total. Getting 1,600 runners in the room today will be a good omen for us reaching that magical 7,000-player mark, and we're hearing rumblings of 2,000, possibly 2,200 showing up today.
There are still a lot of notables we've yet to see take their shot at the 2010 Main Event. We know Phil Hellmuth will be here today thanks to his incessant Twittering about it, and we can't wait to point and laugh when he makes his grand entry donned in UFC trunks and robe sometime during the first two levels. We know Daniel Negreanu is playing today as well, and we also expect to see Dennis Phillips, Ville Wahlbeck, Vanessa Selbst, and the defending champ, Joe Cada.
Apart from that, your guess is as good as ours. We'll find out who the rest of our players are once they turn up in about a half hour's time. We're once again scheduled for a 12:00 p.m.-or-so start, and the room is already abuzz with activity.

Shuffle Up and Deal!
Today's honorary "Shuffle up and deal!" was called out by the reigning world champion, Joe Cada. Tournament Director Jack Effel pointed out that last year, Cada was the overall end of Day 1 chip leader, the first time in 20 years that the Day 1 chip leader went on to win the Main Event.

Orange Section Notables
Our first trip through the orange section of the Amazon Room found the following shining faces: Jerry Yang, Tom McEvoy, Antonio Esfandiari, Adam Junglen, Vicky Coren, Matt Hawrilenko, Terrence Chan, Christina Lindley, Chau Giang, Lauren Kling, Steven van Zadelhoff, Faraz Jaka, and Voitto Rintala.
Some In Pavillion
On our first round of the Pavillion Room some of the notable players we've spotted include Darryll Fish, Chad Brown, Jonathan Karamalikis, Angel Guillen, Alex Jacob, Michael Carroll, Scotty Nguyen, Steve Begleiter, Matt Savage, Salvatore Bonavena and John Juanda.
Savage Starts Well
Matt Savage was happy to learn that he was going to feature as one of the first hands reported for the day, when he fired 2,000 on the river on a board of 
. His opponent made the call and Savage opened 
for a rivered full house.
Savage starts on the right note as he jumps to 35,000.
Early Pot for Margets
Facing a limp, Leo Margets bumped it to 450 from the cutoff and only the limper made the call.
The flop of 
was checked through to see the 
land on the turn and Margets' 575-chip bet check-called by her opponent.

went check, check, and when Margets was shown her opponent's 
, she tabled her 
to collect the pot and move to 31,800 in chips.
Blue's Crew
We've got fifty tables over here in the Blue Section of the Amazon Room and they're starting to fill up with players. Probably the biggest name here is in the center of the section at Table 286. That's where Daniel Negreanu is seated. But he's joined in Blue by the likes of David Oppenheim, Neil Channing, Hoyt Corkins, Scott Fischman, Robert Mizrachi, Shaun Deeb, Lex Veldhuis and arguably the greatest cricketer of all time, Shane Warne.
There are plenty of other notables here in Blue. We're getting them into the chip counts as quickly as we spot them.
Seeing Red
The Red corner of the Amazon Room has been a magnet for big names over the past two days, and today is no exception. We've already spotted Annie Duke and her beaming smile this morning, and there's a Lee Childs right in front of us.
We have the newest member of the poker Hall of Fame, Mike Sexton, his table encircled by a hoard of microphones and cameras. Another member of the royal family of poker, back-to-back Main Event champion Johnny (expletive deleted) Chan is in our section as well.
Dan Smith is occupying the featured table in this section, and just as we're typing, another former world champ is making his entrance. Carlos Mortensen has joined Smith at the table right in front of us, and it figures to be a four-betting, chip-tower-building extravaganza over there.
We also have Jon Aguiar, Matt Ross, Craig Gray, Bryan Devonshire, Alexia Portal, and a few other familiar faces with us.
