Bloch Leads $50,000 Poker Players Championship Into Day 3

Andy Bloch (Day 1)
Andy Bloch (Day 1)

Welcome back to Day 3 of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship at the World Series of Poker. There are 62 players remaining from the starting field of 108 players. Topping the bunch is Andy Bloch with 687,000 in chips, who was his first WSOP gold bracelet this year in Event 7: $1,500 Seven Card Stud.

Rounding out the top five stacks are Abe Mosseri, John Monnette, Michael Cassidy and Joe Cassidy. Mosseri won a massive pot at the end of the night on Day 2 in a very controversial situation. Be sure to read Part 1 and Part 2 of that situation in order to get up to speed on everything.

Others remaining include Phil Iveu, Jason Mercier, Phil Hellmuth, Barry Greenstein, Matt Glantz, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Robert Mizrachi, Brunson Fitoussi and Allen Bari. You can't forget about Brian Rast, either. He's the defending champion of this event and is still very much alive to defend his title.

Play is scheduled to kick off at 2:00 PM and another five levels are on the slate. Stay tuned for all of the action coming straight to you from PokerNews.

D'Agostino Doubles

Limit Hold'em

John D'Agostino started with a very small stake, but he already found himself a double up.

John Monnette raised from the button, and D'Agostino three-bet from the small blind. Monnette called.

The flop came down {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}, D'Agostino bet, Monnette raised and D'Agostino moved all in. Monnette called giving us an all-in showdown.

John Monnette{A-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
John D'Agostino{A-Spades}{8-Hearts}

The turn was the {5-Spades} and the river the {9-Diamonds} giving D'Agostino a double up.

Full House for Blom

Limit Hold'em

Scott Clements raised from under the gun and Viktor Blom reraised from the hijack seat. Play folded back to Clements and he made the call.

The {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop was checked by Clements and Blom bet. Clements called to see the {6-Hearts} land on the turn. Clements checked again and Blom fired a bet. Clements called.

The {3-Diamonds} completed the board on the river. With two pair on board, Clements checked, Blom bet and Clements called.

Blom showed the {A-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for a full house and Clements mucked his hand.

Hawrilenko Busts in His Best Game

Matt Hawrilenko (Day 2)
Matt Hawrilenko (Day 2)

Limit Hold'em

Matt Hawrilenko, who's also known as HOSS_TBF online, is one of the biggest winners in Limit Hold'em. Unfortunately he just got eliminated in that game, bringing the field down to 62.

Lyle Berman kicked off the action by raising under the gun and Antony Lellouche three-bet from late-position. Hawrilenko was in the big blind, and he four-bet all in. Berman folded his cards and Lellouche made the call.

Hawrilenko tabled {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}, and he was in a coin-flip situation against Lellouche's {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. The board ran out {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, giving Lellouche a straight and knocking out Hawrilenko.

Double for Greenstein

Stud-8

Barry Greenstein was all in against Bill Chen on fifth street with the {5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} / {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. Chen held the {8-Clubs}{8-Spades} / {3-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{J-Spades}. When the money had gone in, Chen was in the lead with a pair of eights and that had Greenstein on the ropes. Both players also had three to a low.

Greenstein's board ran out {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} to give him aces and queens. Chen's ran out {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} to give him aces and fours. Greenstein won the pot as neither player made a low and he doubled up.

Wattel Takes out Brown

Stud-8

We just lost Chad Brown in a pot against Mike Wattel and John D'Agostino.

Mike Wattel{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades} / {8-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{3-Spades} / {x-}
John D'Agostino{x-}{x-} / {5-Spades}{J-} - Fold
Chad Brown{5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} / {2-Spades}{A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} / {x-}

Wattel completed the action on third street and both D'Agostino and Brown called. On fourth street Wattel bet, D'Agostino folded and Brown called. On fifth street both players checked. Sixth street created a lot of action when Wattel bet, Brown raised and Wattel three-bet. Brown moved all in and Wattel called.

Brown was looking to make a better low on seventh street, in order to scoop the pot. With a pair of fives he was also in front to win the high, but on the river Wattel caught the {Q-Spades}, completing his flush. Brown missed his low draw, he got the {10-Diamonds}, and that was it for him.
