Day 2 of Event #35: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better; Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better; Big O (5-Card PLO/8) is done and dusted at the 2018 World Series of Poker. The day started with 225 players and after another ten hours of play, just 31 players are left for Day 3. James Alexander has bagged the chip lead with 466,500 in chips to lead the field into the third day.

Alexander said the day has been a rollercoaster for him and his chip stack went up and down and then again. He started the day with 50,175 in chips and has been able to build quite the stack by the end of the day. His day started off well by winning a big hand against Jared Koppel to propel himself into the chip lead.

By the end of the day, it looked like Robert Mizrachi was going to end up with the chip lead, but right in the last couple of hands, Alexander managed to sneak up on Mizrachi and surpass his tablemate in the chip counts.

Mizrachi ended the day third in chips with 439,000, right behind Gabriel Ramos with 452,000 in chips. Out of the 5,797,500 chips in play, Alexander, Ramos and Mizrachi were able to win 1,375,500 of them, which gives them 23% of the chips in play with 31 players left in the tournament.

Other notable players that made it through on Day 2 include Ryan Hughes (276,000), Jon Turner (218,000), Carol Fuchs (215,000), Mark Gregorich (176,500), and Bart Hanson (35,000). At the start of the tournament, Hanson tweeted that this was his favorite tournament on the schedule this summer and he's making the most out of it. Hanson has been nurturing a short stack for most of the tournament but did manage to make it through to Day 3.

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth got eliminated late on Day 2

Darryll Fish is one of the players that showed up for Day 2 but wasn’t fortunate enough to make it to the money. Dan Heimiller, Connor Drinan, Chris Ferguson, and Stephen Chidwick all busted out before the money was reached. Martin Staszko (103rd - $2,258), Andrew Barber (84th - $2,444), Calen McNeil (71st - $2,444), Max Pescatori (69th - $2,631), Barry Greenstein (53rd - $3,256), Erik Seidel (43rd - $3,741) and Phil Hellmuth (35th - $5,252) all did manage to make the money but they didn’t survive Day 2.

14-time bracelet winner Hellmuth's stack got decimated in the final level of the day when he ran into Eddie Blumenthal's top set in Omaha Hi-Lo. Hellmuth had flopped middle pair and a straight draw a hand where Blumenthal accidentally opened with a call instead of an intended raise. Three bets went in on the flop and one on the turn. Hellmuth improved to inferior trips on the river, paid another bet of Blumenthal off and was shown the bad news.

"Are you f*cking kidding me? This goofball doesn't even know how to play and he's got all of the chips," Hellmuth fired as he bounced from his seat. Shortly after, Hellmuth's remaining chips vanished as well to end his attempt at bracelet #15 in 35th place.

On Monday, the tournament will continue with Day 3 at 2 p.m. The plan is to play down to a winner, but given the deep structure and still 31 players in the tournament it is very unlikely the tournament will come to a conclusion, and a fourth day will be needed to decide a winner.

Last Five Hands of the Night

Level 20 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

The tournament director has just announced that there will be five more hands before the night hands. The remaining players will bag and tag to return tomorrow for Day 3. A full recap and end of day chip counts will be posted shortly.

Ramos Makes Deuces Work

Level 20 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Omaha-8

Gabriel Ramos raised it up from the cutoff and Dennis Eichhorn three-bet on the button. The blinds folded and Ramos called to see a flop of {10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts}. Both players checked and the {2-Diamonds} peeled off on the turn.

Ramos led out this time and Eichhorn quickly called. The river brought the {j-Diamonds} and Ramos fired out another bet. Eichhorn thought for a minute and then stuck in the chips to call. Ramos flipped over {10-Spades}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs} for a full house and Eichhorn's cards hit the muck.

Fuchs Eliminates Sharaskin

Big-O

After Igor Sharaskin lost a pot to Ammon Warner he had a little more than 100,000 behind. However, he lost those a couple of hands later against bracelet winner Carol Fuchs.

Fuchs was holding {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} when the flop was {9-Spades}{10-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. All the chips went in the middle against the {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs} of Sharaskin.

The dealer completed the board with the {4-Hearts} turn and the {4-Clubs} river to give Fuchs a full house, nines over fours, beating Sharaskin's flush.

Blumenthal Leaves Hellmuth on Crumbs

Level 20 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Omaha-8

Eddie Blumenthal mistakenly misread the game that was being played and his attempt at a raise was limited to a call. Phil Hellmuth came along in the small blind along with Jon Turner in the big blind.

The flop came {q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and the action checked to Blumenthal who tossed in a bet. Hellmuth instantly check-raised and Turned got out of the way. Blumenthal put in a three-bet and Hellmuth just called.

The turn was the {10-Spades} and Hellmuth check-called another bet from Blumenthal. The {8-Spades} on the river paired the board and Hellmuth checked again. Blumenthal moved a bet into the middle and Hellmuth quickly called. Blumenthal rolled over {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for a full house and Hellmuth bounced from his seat.

"Are you f*cking kidding me? This goofball doesn't even know how to play and he's got all of the chips." Hellmuth flashed the {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for trip eights and then his cards went flying to the muck.

Fuchs Finds a Good Runout

Level 20 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Carol Fuchs
Carol Fuchs

Omaha-8

Stephen Ladowsky raised it up from under the gun and Igor Sharaskin three-bet directly to his left. Carol Fuchs was in the small blind and just cold-called and Ladowsky found himself all in for 24,000.

The flop fell {9-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Fuchs led out with a bet. Sharaskin called to create a side pot and the {4-Spades} hit the turn. Fuchs fired again and Sharaskin continued to call. The {10-Spades} completed the board and Fuchs bet one more time. Sharaskin quickly laid his hand down and Fuchs was already awarded the side pot.

She tabled {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{8-Spades} for the nut flush and Ladowsky showed {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. His cards hit the muck and Fuchs dragged in the main pot as well to eliminate Ladowsky.
