Event #36: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold'em drew a massive field of 2,191 entries and just 347 players are left in the hunt. The age threshold for this year's Super Seniors event has been lowered from 65 to 60 and the field size was significantly increased from last year's total of 1,720.

After 10 levels of Day 1 play, it's Clifford Matthews leading the way with 137,900 after catching fire in the last two levels. Henri Bisson is right on his heels with 130,000. It was smooth sailing for Bisson on Day 1 who built a big stack early and sat near the top of the chip counts for much of the day.

Two-time defending Super Seniors champion James Moore will not be making it a three-peat. Moore was nursing a short stack following the dinner break and was eliminated in the last level of the night.

Other players to fall by the wayside today include Marcel Luske, TJ Cloutier, Neil Bluminfield and Dan Harrington.

The 351 Day 1 survivors will return on Monday, June 18 at 11 A.M. to Pavilion White in the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino to resume Day 2 play. The money bubble is looming as the final 329 players will all make the money and be guaranteed at least $1,500 for their efforts. PokerNews will be on the floor start-to-finish as we continue down to crowning our new Super Seniors champion.

James Moore

James Moore was nursing a short stack when he returned from the dinner break and was unable to find a double-up. Moore, who won this event in back-to-back years 2016 and 2017, was just eliminated in the last level of the night.

With the elimination of Moore, it looks like there will be a new Super Seniors Champion for the first time in three years.

James more opened from late position and a cutoff opponent called. The flop came down {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and Moore lead for 575. The cutoff opponent raised to 2,000, Moore made the call.

The turn came the {4-Diamonds} and Moore checked to the cutoff opponent who bet 2,500. Moore thought for a moment and then moved all in for 3,675 more.

The cutoff opponent called and players revealed their hands. The cutoff tabled {a-Hearts}{k-Spades} for a pair of kings with a straight draw and Moore then turned over {q-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} for two pair.

The river ran clean for Moore as the {5-Spades} hit the felt. He now has over three times the starting stack and is building up a stack worth noting early on in the day.

Rodriguez thought for a moment before pushing all in for around 6,000. The button folded and players then revealed their hands. Blumenfield tabled {8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for a pair with a straight draw and Rodriguez showed {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for draws to both the straight and flush.

Alan Marks raised to 350 from under the gun and TJ Cloutier moved all in for his last 950. It folded back to Marks who called turning over {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Cloutier showed {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}.

The {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop was no help to Cloutier but he paired his ace to take the lead when the {a-Diamonds} hit the turn. The {j-Hearts} completed the board and Cloutier doubled up.

Day 1 of Event #36: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold'em is slated to begin today at 10 a.m. local time. This tournament has an age requirement of at least 60 and is sure to attract a field of finely aged poker talent.

The tournament has a scheduled three days of play. One person that knows all too well about it is reigning champ James Moore, who was part of a field of 1,476 runners last year and by the end of the tournament, he had all the chips. He pocketed a cool $259,230, a coveted World Series of Poker bracelet, and was crowned champion of the Super Seniors.

Cloutier, James Woods, David Sklansky, and Charles Barker who he beat heads-up to seal the win. And Moore isn't just last year's Champion. He also came into the 2017 edition of the Super Seniors event as the reigning Champion, having won hos first WSOP bracelet in the 2016 edition of this same event.

The players will have a 5,000 starting stack and the blind levels will begin at 25/50. There will be ten 60-minute levels play on Day 1, all remaining will move on to the second day.

There will be at 20-minute break every two blind levels and a 75-minute dinner break after the sixth level of play. There will be a late registration period until the beginning of level nine for any players wanting to jump in later on in the tournament.
