Event #74: Big Blind Antes $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed Championship

Day 1 Completed

Robert Mizrachi Leads the 6-Handed Championship into Day 2

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Robert Mizrachi

After ten 60-minute levels were played out in the first day of the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed Championship, Robert Mizrachi will return as the Day 2 chip leader after he bagged an impressive 364,100.

A field of 327 players came together today, and 115 of them will return on Thursday, July 12, at 2pm. However, it is expected that a few additional faces will be added to the line-up because registration will remain open until the start of play.

Peter Weinand (358,900), Jason Mangold (350,100), Michael Gathy (345,000) and Mark Teltscher (314,500) also bagged big stacks with well-known faces Ben Lamb (203,900), Jason Koon (156,000), Loni Harwood (154,600) and Jeff Gross (147,000) all progressing. Both Daniel Negreanu (37,300), and Liv Boeree (30,000) also made it through, albeit as the short stacks.

When the play got underway only 37 players were in their seats, but the field quickly grew, and the entrants were coming and going throughout the day.

Ivan Luca had quite the day after he started in the Main Event and ended up bagging 117,700 in Event #74. Luca was one of the returning 27 Main Event players, ultimately exiting in 20th place for $282,630. He gave himself a couple of hours break before jumping into the 6-handed Championship where his chip stack swung up and down, but he ultimately ended on a high.

WSOP Player of the year contender Shaun Deeb ran up his stack early on but had a set back in level 8 against Loni Harwood. Deeb called Harwood's all-in on the river and saw his pair of tens was no good against Harwood's king-high flush. But Deeb was able to rebuild and ended the day with 182,700.

Current POTY leader John Hennigan was one of the big names to depart throughout the day, and he was joined at the rail by many others including Niall Farrell, Dan Shak, Ryan Laplante, Chance Kornuth, Scotty Nguyen, Manig Loeser, Daniel Strelitz, Matt Berkey, Steffen Sontheimer, Adrian Mateos, Jonathan Little, Simon Trumper, Kristen Bicknell and Max Silver.

When play resumes the blinds will begin at 1,000/2000/2000 big blind ante. PokerNews will be back with all the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed Championship Day 2 action from 2pm on Thursday, July 12, as the remaining players battle for a place in the final day.

Lamb Versus Ace-King

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

There was a small pot that took place at the table of Liv Boeree and Ben Lamb, but it got the attention of all the players around the table as they came over to watch what happened.

The player in the one-seat got dealt ace-king, but one of the players at the table saw the cards. The floor was called and told the player he had to expose his cards to every player at the table and that his hand would be dead. When he tabled {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} he didn't want to give up his hand.

The floor allowed him to play his hand, as long as he kept his hand face up all the way through until the end.

Surprisingly enough, they saw a three-way {J-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{A-Clubs} flop appear on the board. The player with exposed cards put out a minimum bet of 1,600 and Ben Lamb called. The other player was out of the hand and the {7-Clubs} turn came down. Both players checked. The {Q-Hearts} completed the board and Lamb gave up as his opponent bet another 1,600.

Jaka Takes From Smith

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Faraz Jaka in a previous event
Faraz Jaka in a previous event

The flop was {2-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs} and Faraz Jaka check-called a 4,500 bet from Dan Smith.

The turn was the {J-Spades} and Jaka checked to Smith again. Smith decided to go a little bit bigger this time and threw in three 5,000 chips. Jaka called for the second time to see the river.

The dealer burned and put down the {Q-Hearts} river to complete the board and Jaka checked to Smith for the third and final time. Smith threw in a bet of 30,000 and Jaka called within seconds.

Smith announced "sevens" and opened up {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, but Jaka had the better hand with {Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}.
