Event #74: $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha

Day 1 Started

Welcome to Event #74: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha

Omaha poker
Omaha poker

It's time for more four-card goodness on GGPoker as Event #74: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha has arrived.

Today's event begins with stacks of 25,000 and blinds of 100/200. Levels will last 15 minutes throughout the tournament, progressing until someone ends up with all of the chips as this is a one-day event. Up to two reentries are allowed and breaks will be given at five 'til the hour, every hour. Late registration and reentry lasts for 3 1/2 hours.

Games will be six-handed until the final table is reached, at which point the final nine will play with their real names displayed.

Omaha events thus far on GGPoker have produced some notable champions. Juha Helppi ($5K PLO), Eoghan O'Dea ($400 PLO), Bradley Ruben ($1,500 PLO) and Toby Joyce ($800 PLO) are among those to secure bracelets. Meanwhile, German pro Ismael Bojang won this event last year when it was played live in Las Vegas.

A number of notables have already registered for this one, including GGPoker's own Daniel Negreanu, Pete Chen, Dario Alioto, Benny Glaser, Manig Loeser, George Wolff and Max "MaxBlakbeard" Pescatori. The prize pool is inching toward $100K at the time of writing but will surely far surpass that total as the entries roll in.

The first hands are scheduled to be dealt at 2 p.m. EDT, so come right back to PokerNews then to track the latest GGPoker bracelet event.

Peltoniemi Soaring Early

Level 2 : 150/300, 0 ante

One of the biggest stacks early on belongs to Janne "Fructu" Peltoniemi.

While that name may not ring a bell, it's one to keep an eye on given the Finnish player's success here in the GGPoker bracelet events so far. Peltoniemi managed to make the final table of the $1,050 Pot-Limit Omaha Bounty event early in the series.

While grinding with one of the shortest stacks for most of the late play down, Peltoniemi managed to continuously double up when he got short, usually with aces. He laddered past nearly every opponent until he was left heads up with Hun Wei Lee. Ultimately, Lee would beat him out for the bracelet as expected given their stacks, but the $64K score was still a handsome one for Peltoniemi.

Charania on Fire

Mohsin Charania
Mohsin Charania

Mohsin Charania has built a massive stack out of the gate thanks to a couple of huge hands.

First, he defended big blind against an open from "fsousa" and they saw a {5-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop. Charania checked, fsousa potted 2,250, Charania potted and fsousa shoved for 30K.

fsousa: {k-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
Charania: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

Charania was in a dominating spot with his set and while fsousa improved with the {4-Clubs} turn, the river was a {q-Clubs} for a Charania double.

Two hands later, Charania got in a preflop all in three ways.

Charania: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
fsousa: {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts}
"Livia": {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

The {2-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} flop was as dreamy as it gets for Charania and he didn't even have to sweat the river after a {5-Spades} turn.

Chen to Six Figures

Level 3 : 200/400, 0 ante

Four players saw a {5-Spades}{j-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop for 1,000 apiece and "KC187" bet 2,240 from under the gun. The next two players folded and then James Chen made it 10,720 from the big blind. KC187 shoved for 29K and Chen called with {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for the current nuts.

KC187 was drawing with {a-Spades}{8-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and picked up a gutter on the {k-Hearts} turn. Chen was the one improving on the river when it came a {7-Clubs} though.
